Andrew and I made a trade. It was a weird feeling seeing my earlier pick go especially as the players obtained in exchange were picked between Nichols and the 12th round. Andrew is putting together an interesting group of NL greats.

can you do trades? not that anybody would want my players, just for some reference purposes

I remember doing trades back in maybe the 2010 league. I certainly have no objection to the trade, and honestly hope that more trades occur. Adds to the dynamic.

trades are allowed. You can't trade draft picks. If you don't have a 24 man roster after the trade then the appropriate number of players need to be dropped or picked up to get back to 24.

Want to trade catchers Bench or Carter and starting pitcher Cy Young. Any and all offers considered. Especially need an outfielder, maybe an infielder, definitely one more closer. Or you might offer players and/or one I want when you pick, you pick the one I want, and then we trade.

Don't listen to much trance or hardcore, but Angerfist is a no brainer;

Draft Robin Ventura and have him beat down by Nolan Ryan.

The one thing I've always stumbled with has been my bullpen. When I first started I took starters and used them in relief. Didn't do much better. Then I tried using closers, and did a little better, but not that much. There was about a century of baseball before the closer was fully embraced. It's hard to build a stable of relievers with 'all-star closers' who were hot a few years in the 90s!

2nd year for me, so i'm a tourist. However, starters go a large number of innings so they have to pace. Relievers have to get outs. Relievers have pretty good stats in terms of strike outs and home runs per 9 innings. Not sure how the SIM works, but looking at last year, my relievers used in long relief did crappy. Similarly, my starter in long relief did worse than when he started.

I have to agree, the bullpen is tough to figure out. I drafted JR Richards last year for the bullpen in hopes his flame throwing would do well, the only flaming was him getting lit up.

The best thing to do is check if the pitcher actually spent any amount of time pitching in relief. The pitchers are rated for starting and relieving. If they did little or no relief then they are basically rated poor and are going to kill you, even if they are a god as a starter.

Wilbur Wood was one of annual selections but I think someone got wise and snagged him early this year. He's a workhorse, plus did a fair amount of long relief in his day.

since my big horses from last year willie mays and lou gehrig were taken early this year, i'm trying to draft a whole new team with no repeat. it's getting to be harder as there are a couple spots where an old friend would be the best option right now.

What is the deadline year for a player to start their career?

How does designating a player the utility position work? For instance, if I play Pete Rose as utility player, does that mean he is used at all the positions he played during his career? Or does that mean the SIM uses him as a backup in left field?

Lee, career had to start by 1996. 1997 is too late.

Mike, If Rose rides the pine the computer will sub him as it sees fit. If you want to start him, he can start any position where is start 25% or more of his career games played. i.e. if he played 1000 games, any position he played 250 games or more he could start. Rose doesn't follow the 50% rule because he didn't start anywhere over 50% of his games.

Ok, draft is over. Self-evaluation: My goal of hitting over the Mendoza Line will be realized. My pitching staff sucks; with the exception of Paige, Wood, & Wilhelm. Really failed in my valuation of pitchers since some were picked up after I finished my rotation (especially Ferguson Jenkins).

Rolling the dice with Ray Brown & Bill Foster. Hope one pans out.
