Re: 2013 smack talk
I think the best resource is right here on this part of the forum. All of the stats are still there from the past few years. I recently reviewed them.
The real life stats are interesting, but there's no way to see how the game will interpret them.
That's why I look to past performances in the sim.
Even still, I am amazed how Johnny Mize is carrying my team!

Re: 2013 smack talk
i don't want jamie to leave...and if that means jay has to pack up the 14" monitor, 486 pentium with the dialup 28.8k modem and aol floppies and send it to boston so jamie can run the league, then i will contribute some of the shipping money!
p.s. does the sim really run in a predictable manner? if so then it's not a very good sim. i've never looked at past years or performances as an indicator of future outcome. i'd just assumed the sim is randomized and it's part skill and part luck. just like in real life you can't load up like the yankees and phillies but it's always some small market team that does well.

Re: 2013 smack talk
You can look at past performance to get a good idea how a player will actually perform. Wilbur Wood is been very good every time. Just like real life, you will odd performances for a season, but for the most part they are going to perform as you would think they would. Some numbers may not be as good since it's the very best playing against the very best, so not everyone can hit 50+ HRS, etc when you have a ton of pitchers that didn't give up many. Same for scoring. Scores seem pretty high right now and means ERAs are taking a beating.
Re: 2013 smack talk
After three weeks, only five (five!) pitchers have an ERA under 3.00. J Wood, SJ Williams, J Palmer, W Johnson, and D Vance.
That's surprising.
It's a hitters league!
How about my Johnny Mize though? .491 AVG, 7 HR, 23 RBI. Leading the league in countless offensive categories. MVP! MVP! MVP!

Re: 2013 smack talk
My team is way above my projected wins according to the pythagorean method. Basically, it uses your run differential to determine your wins. It's pretty accurate but there are always exceptions. The 1987 Twins were a huge exception. The Twins are the only team to make the playoffs, let alone win the WS with a negative run differential
Re: 2013 smack talk
go to baseball-reference.com and they have a breakdown of every position a player has played
Re: 2013 smack talk
Thank goodness we're going week by week.
Normally after two sims, I'm out of contention.
I think it will be much more competitive this season as so many teams will have a chance, given our opportunity to micromanage.

Re: 2013 smack talk
anybody feels like running the sim a week's time is TOO micro-managy? it seems like we're reacting too much over the flux and flow of a 5 game stretch. i'm sure jay is over it.
maybe we should go back to 2 week's time so we'll have a better sample before going bonkers with all the changes?

Re: 2013 smack talk
Lefty Grove is now the only pitcher with a sub-3.00 ERA.

One tough hombre, only missed two games. Wells was credited with being the first player to use a batting helmet (was a construction helmet) now we know why. The Rudi Stein of the ATG league.
