Re: Aug Pickups
Thanks guys - yep I did find the Wright on ebay. Its one of the best images I have seen on a Wright OJ in some time, so I am really happy to have added it to my collection.
Re: Aug Pickups
Way to go Chris. That Wright card is one of my favorites and i know you've been waiting awhile to land one.

Why is the B18 blanket "A", do they not assign numbers?

That '53 Mays is a classic. I collect 19th century items, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for that one. Good luck on the set.

Is it too late to retract my bids on the Mays and save Lee a few bucks?

Re: Aug Pickups
I have to agree on the pose, a classic one othe reasons I decied on the 53 set, I am down to 9 for my 56 set. It is so much cheaper to collect the Topps cards. I put a 57 set together (minus the Mantle, I think he is overrated and don't want to pay the money for his cards). I sold the set to use as a down payment on my house.
Chris, that would be a bummer if we were banging heads but hey that our hobby, who would have thought either or both were looking to buy.
The 53 mantle is even attractive enough to me I may end up buying that for the set, but that farther down the road.
more acquistions to come when I receive them.

Re: Aug Pickups
'53T was the first set I put together, just because I had a raw version of the Paige card and really liked it. I just love the artwork of the set. I'm not a Yankees fan, but the Joe Collins card (#9, and it's just ridiculous to me that I actually remember that off the top of my head) is particularly striking. Each card's a painting.
Enjoy!

Re: Aug Pickups
1953 Topps saved my life. I started collecting in 1992 and the year previously 1991 Topps Archives was released featuring the 1953 Topps set.
I traded a card for a 1953 Topps archive and became enamored with vintage cards.
Had I started collecting at any other time period, I likely would have collected contemporary cards, lost interest, and moved on to another hobby ... and had a normal life.
I didn't bid you up too much Lee, but it's definately #1 on my 1950s want list. My day will come. I'll have a huge pickup to show next week, had I not gotten it, you or I likely would have paid more for the Mays.
