Re: January 2008 Pickups
Scott,
Nice looking card, part of the nice price was from it originally
being listed only has a Hindu back.
Does that one have a number written
on the back in a wax pencil (looks to be faint)? I have a seen a few
red hindus marked like that (I think Pete has one). I wouls assume they
are form the same collector.
Find a BL 460 yet?

Re: January 2008 Pickups
Sean, it does appear to have writing on the back, and I have seen a few others like that as well over the years.
I have a BL 460 common and might have some good news regarding some BL 460's very soon!

Re: January 2008 Pickups
It does appear the same as other Red Hindus that I've seen with "7 C" written on the back.
If you turn it on its side, that appears to be the notation on yours, Scott.
I have no idea what the notation means but I've seen it on several Red Hindus in the past.

Re: January 2008 Pickups
Scott M., the card arrived today - it IS the "7C" writing in blue on the reverse, as we have seen on a few other Red Hindus.
I remember these, b/c the person who wrote the notation put a - through the 7, same as I do.

Thanks Ben!!!
Yes...i guess i could not pass this card up when we went in on a group for Mastro. For the price and scarce Red Background i figure its a no brainer. I did sacrafice some of my cash that was destined to a T204 Square frame but i knew the Moran in Mastro would go for a little bit more than what i wanted to pay and who knows what the winner would have put for max bid on Moran.
I only have a few cards in my collection now, just sitting back and waiting for more Square frames to come up. I decided last year to sell a bunch of cards and hold cash for nice deals or cards i really wanted. And with a recession (in my opinion) coming soon i think it was a wise move. I have plenty of $ now and ready to strike!!!

Yup, great Matty Mark! And by comments made, I'm guessing your a red e98 type of a guy? I myself might fall in a trap paying more for a blue....

Well...
The E98 Reds seem to bring out the player more than the other colors and the different shade of Red on this Matty is very nice. The scan does not do the card justice. In person the red is much bolder/darker and there is a slight change of color red from top, middle and bottom. Could be because of the age or maybe its been that way all the time but for whatever reason i love it.

Re: January 2008 Pickups
Hi all,
I bought this card because it was right.
Now I'm unsure what it is right for.

Certainly it would fit a theme with Hamilton, Gore and Stovey; all of whom totalled more runs scored than games played. However, the cost for that compilation is greater than I'd like to face.
Alternates would include a 1922 game between Phi and Chi NL in 1922 where trhe final score was 23-26. And the 26 runs were given up by only two pitchers.
But maybe there are better theme ideas. Have one ?

Thanks Rman for allowing the Wagner Batting Cocoa to come home to the Philadelphia area. Just two more Cocoas to go!
Thanks King for the others and helping to continue to fuel my Crofts addiction!

Super nice pickups everyone! Glad to see Scott acquired the rarest HOF'er in the Croft's Cocoa set (Wagner Batting)! Eric- nice E107 - people must be hanging onto those, b/c they seem to have dried up lately.
Kevin - We will know what you are up to with those rare backs, should we see you buy a couple of Red or Bat Off Cobbs on eBay!
Gil - I love that 19th Century card - that card is hilarious!

I gettng a bad rap.

Not everything is planned for alteration table...I am a collector too!

Re: January 2008 Pickups
I was only joking with you Kevin. I know you are honest and wouldn't try to reback some Cobbs (like Gerry Moser did a few years back)
Those rare backs (Lenox and Uzit) look really nice - congrats on the pickups!

January Pickups
Thanks Scott for the compliment.
See.....there's another E107 pickup. Nice Moore. Does that one have the ad on the back or is it blank back? Did you get it from the same place I did?
And I have another E107 coming to me. It's Jack O'Connor. One of the few cards he appears on. Only 4 examples and this particular one is the highest graded (though I don't know if that's 4 from SGC or 4 including all grading companies). If someone can please check the PSA pop report for this card, I'd really apprecaite it.
This one cost me a pretty penny. Cash and 5 cards: an E98 McLean SGC 20 from the Lionel Carter collection, and 4 E94's: Dougherty (Red) PSA 3, Leach (Red) PSA 1, Lobert (Green) PSA 3, Austin (Red) SGC 30 that I got from Dave. I will miss those cards. So here's what I got for all that:
