Re: January 2008 Pickups
Thanks for the kind words Eric. You are definitely building a super nice rare type-card collection rather quickly - good luck with your collection!

Re: January 2008 Pickups
Thanks Scott.
I wanted to pick up what I could, while I had the money. I think my aquisitions the rest of the year may be a very minimal. I'm probably looking at another 5-6 cards and that's pushing it. So I won't be sharing my pickups on the Pickup thread that much (because there won't be that many), but I'll enjoy everyone elses!

Nice pickup, Mark! Newsboys are tough cards. Unfortunately, there's no record of who's pictured. The subjects were young newspaper delivery boys of the time dressed up in a baseball uniforms.

Really nice pickup Mark (and a great price to boot) - I have never owned one before personally.

Got my t205 Cobb. Damn those last second snipers. Cost me and extra $140, but I figured $400 was about right for the card, especially since I paid almost that much for my Young and it's not much better looking.

cool jay, a bio back! all his other cards are graded wonder why he didn't get this one graded also...prolly just the skeptic in me.
i'm actually excited to be getting this t206 johnson pitching...my first ever prewar card was a psa4 t206 johnson pitching, brings me back to 2001...a lil staining on bottom but i don't mind:

He wants payment by PayPal, so I'm covered if the card is bogus. Richard Patton is the seller. I think I've seen his name around net54, but not sure.

Got in my hands tonight my second ex-National Association player: Grin Bradley.
A hack job.
But pitched the National Leagues first shutout, and 15 others in 1876.
A record only matched once, by Matty.
And won 45 games in that inaugral season.
He goes with my O'Rourke.
Less of a hack job.
Who got the National League's first hit.

Re: January 2008 Pickups
Thanks for the kind words guys. Just another beater to match the rest of my collection.
John - that is an amazing back (my new favorite as a matter of fact)! Not that I would have expected anything less from you!
I had to settle for this SGC 20 b/c some guy beat me out by one cent on the Red Hindu Kleinow that was on eBay. BTW - I had been debating whether or not to pull the trigger on the Cycle 460 in a 4 holder that was in an ebay seller's store (Needham I believe - I do know it was a 460 only card). Last time I checked some "wonkaticket" guy won it - you have great taste in cards John!
Sean - I am not really trying to get all the backs for any particular player (except maybe Oberlin). I have been lucky, as I have quite a few players (including several HOF'ers) with multiple different rare backs.
Mark - I do have quite a few connections I made over the years. I have to admit though that the lead for this card came from this board!

Damn if you are going to get a Broadleaf 460 you might as well go for the gusto. Nice pickup Scott.
I find it funny that it was not that long ago that a HOFer with on premium back didn't really command any kind of a premium, that always amazed me. Just wish I would have bought a few more at that time.

Re: January 2008 Pickups
Thanks Jim! I only wish I would have picked your old Willis Throwing BL 460 up from Sloate - I love that card (great background colors on that one).
Lee. This is actually the first HOF'er I have ever owned with a BL460 back. I have a common. Also, in the past, I had five different commons (before I quit collecting in 2001), but never a Hall of Famer until this Baker.
