If you sold your collection...what would you do with the $$$
As much as I love baseball...and the bb card/collectible/memorabilia hobby...I occasionally contemplate selling my collection. For me...using this money to put towards a new home...or a vacation home...or a new life...is appealing to me. If you guys were to sell your collections...what would you do with the proceedings? Pay off debt...college education for kids...grandkids...donate the $$$ to charity...just stick it in an interest bearing account...bet it on a horse...100 to 1? What would y'all do?

I already did this so I can tell you what I would do-BUY ANOTHER COLLECTION!
My collecting never ends. It just transfers from one thing to another

Re: If you sold your collection...what would you do with the $$$
Did it once to try and save a marriage. Never again. I will always collect baseball cards and they will go to my son. He do whatever he wants with them at that point.
I've learned to be more focused in my collecting. Once I finish my current sets, I'll move to other sets and cards I want. I doubt seriously I'll ever have enough money to buy everything I want.

Like the saying goes, "money can't buy you love". I get more pleasure out of these cards than any thing else can buy right now.
If I had to sell, I would pay off my house and what little debt I have. and start buying again with all the money I would no longer have to pay on the debt.

Re: If you sold your collection...what would you do with the $$$
I find myself thinking the same thing from time to time. I would probably just pay down my home loan but im really not in any major hurry for that so I keep adding to my collection. I also one day hope to make a career change and it could help offset any financial needs I might have.
Now if hard times were to hit (lose job, sick, etc) then I would have no problem selling if I needed the money.
I do feel I will always be collecting only the budget will change.

jeff...good one...sexy car no doubt!!! And Lee...I agree for the most part...but I do think to a certain degree money can buy love!!! Like I'd love to live near the ocean...or I'd love to live/have a house in a tropical setting!!! Sometimes I think this type of love...would be more meaningful than little pieces of cardboard...that I love so much...as I could enjoy a beach setting or a seaside view each and every day!!!!

But knowing someone can get you front row baseball seats at cost and watch him drop any easy liner right to him. Now that's something you can't buy.

weird, i have never thought about it...thinking out loud right now probably go toward a retirement home or my family somehow.
i did have a thought yesterday that if i had to give up my collection or watching baseball, surprisingly it was an easy choice....the collection goes and i keep my baseball-watching entertainment.

A root canal...
If the collection was worth enough, which it isn't I would by a place in Italy or France.

Probally take some more trips to Europe but it would take a major Paradigm shift to sell all of them.

good one Jeff-the only reason you have a collection is because you don't do drugs, because if you did there would be no collection. Your postcards would be up your nose.
If I sold my collection it would go to the kids education-University of Maryland is 10k per semester-that includes room and board-2 semesters a year = 20k. Our oldest girl ( Janna) is a sophomore at Maryland and we have 2 younger children. They want the tuition in full before school starts.
My wife and I have talked about this several times. I hope it doesn't come to that but if it did, it would be for a good cause.

You guys are a riot.
It's a great question, though. I did it once too (sold) and found I couldn't quite shake the bug. And I suspect that's how it'll be for most of us. You just have to roll with shifting priorities and not spend above your means (something I have a tough time with) and you can have at least a little bit of all your dreams...cue swelling violins. However, if I do sell one day it's going to go toward vacation/retirement property. Long way off, but I think about that a bit. A nice place to cool out when it's time.
On another note, I wonder if Pete is more gentle than my current dentist. I just had a deep gum cleaning and my doctor, a woman, is no nonsense whatsoever. Felt like she was ripping my damn teeth out. Anyhow. Gentle dental care. Hard to buy for love or money.

I have two cards I'd absolutely never sell - my N172 Delahanty and my N173 Ewing. I'd rather sleep on the streets than sell them. But in regards to the question, if I did sell them, I'd probably like to take some time backpacking around the world. It would be a bit lonely, but I'd meet interesting people.

Serious answer is that I'd probably spend the money on the interior of my house. Maybe get some new furniture, some cool artwork, paint the walls, etc. etc.

Buy more cards of course. Starting over from scratch with a fresh wad of doe would be a blast.

You'll notice that he didn't disavow the hookers... just the drugs.

Pete, I chipped one of my back teeth on vacation last week...maybe I should stop in, you're only a couple blocks away from me.
Would that help the pocket book?
