YOUR COLLECTION
It's interesting to know how and what our community collects. I actually find it facinating hearing all the stories and seeing the great examples displayed here. It makes me drool! So let's hear about your collections, your favorites, and how you got there.
How long have you been collecting pre-war baseball cards?
What got you into the hobby?
What is your favorite Tobacco card type?
What is your favorite E card type?
What is your absolute favorite card in your collection? Post a pic.
How many cards are in your collection?
Are you a type collector or a set collector, or both?
Where is your favorite place to pick up cards?
Which card in your collection is the most valuable?
What card do you regret getting rid of the most?
Thank you for the great idea Dave F.
And I'll start:
How long have you been collecting pre-war baseball cards? 1 year this month
What got you into the hobby? The intrigue of the Monster. I began 2007 by trying to tackle the T206 set. By August I had about 70 cards. I then sold all of them and began type collecting. That's where I am now.
What is your favorite Tobacco card type? T216's
What is your favorite E card type? E107's, just because of the lore of this set. First major baseball card of the 20th century. I have 2 and that's probably it for me, but I love this set. As far as a set that I would try to tackle....I would say E94's and E98's.
What is your absolute favorite card in your collection? Post a pic. I'm going to say my E107 SGC 20 Jack O'Connor
How many cards are in your collection? Right now 21 (still waiting on 4 to arrive)
Are you a type collector or a set collector, or both? Type collector right now. If I was to do a set, I would start an E94 set.
Where is your favorite place to pick up cards? Vintage Card Forums. Since I'm type collecting it's the easiest way to pick up the cards I want. After that I'd say Ebay.
Which card in your collection is the most valuable? E107 Jack O'Connor SGC 20
What card do you regret getting rid of the most? A T206 Josh Devore Red Hindu graded PSA 1. But it's at a good home.

Re: YOUR COLLECTION
Wow Jay!
"298 of 1557 cards I am looking for"
Is the 1557, the number of Major Leaguers from 1908-1945 that appeared on cards? And of those 1557 cards, do you have every one you want picked out (basically on a checklist)? That would have had to take some time.
That's a great goal.

Re: YOUR COLLECTION
How long have you been collecting pre-war baseball cards?
- 9 years.
What got you into the hobby?
- I transitioned over from collecting pre-war hockey cards in the 90's.
What is your favorite Tobacco card type?
- Many 19th century sets, too tough to pick from them. 20th century, probably T214/T215. My favorite that I own is a t212 Obak Buck Weaver.
What is your favorite E card type?
- I like E107's too. Probably a tie between E107 and E104.
What is your absolute favorite card in your collection? Post a pic.
-My D359 Plank (Larger pic on my website)
How many cards are in your collection?
- Approximately 100 pre-war baseball cards. Used to be more.
Are you a type collector or a set collector, or both?
- Type collector, although I am working in a collector grade e96 set.
Where is your favorite place to pick up cards?
-Trades with friends in the hobby.
Which card in your collection is the most valuable?
- My E107 Plank.
What card do you regret getting rid of the most?
- I don't regret selling or trading anything. My biggest regret is not putting my old collection under lock and key before it was stolen in a break-in 3 years ago.

That's horrible and I'm sorry to hear that. That's my biggest fear.
Were you able to recover any of the collection? Did you have it insured?

Re: YOUR COLLECTION
It was my biggest fear too. I was only able to recover 5 lower value cards that happened to show up on ebay after they had passed through several hands. And no, they weren't insured. Anyways, I don't want to derail your thread from its topic (great thread btw), as most here are aware of the ordeal I went through as it was aired publicly on the net 54 forum back when it happened. Thanks though.
Re: YOUR COLLECTION
I have two different checklists. One that lists every major leaguer that appeared on a card as either a major leaguer or minor leaguer. This list has 2357 players. Most them are in the Old Mill and Zeenut sets. That was my orignal goal, but prices for series 8 Old Mills went out the roof, so I need to set a more realistic goal of players that only appeared on cards as major leaguers. That made it a more managable size with fewer high priced rarities.
When I started on the project, I set getting the rarities and HOFers. Some of the rarities I may never get, like the J=K Candy card of Bedient. There are only 2 known examples and both are owned by guys workign on the set.
The only big name player I have left to acquire is Joe Jackson and I plan on taking care of that this year. Within this quest I am going to put together the Delong set since that has always been one of favorite sets. Foxx is the most expensive card I have left to get in that set. After that, I can start concentrating on buying lots of Diamond Stars, t205s and other groups of cards with easy to gind players and really put a dent in the total.

How long have you been collecting cards? 3-4 years
What got you into the hobby? A love of baseball and history
What is your favorite T card type? Probably T206's for their beauty and endless selection
What is your favorite E card type? E103
Whats your absolute favorite card in your collection? Gotta be my e90-1 jax and in a close 2nd my N321 hess California league card. (I would post a picture but dont know how)
How many cards are in your collection? About 100 give or take a few
Are you a type collector or set collector? I am a little of both. I collect cards of Matty, Cobb, Jackson, and wagner with a little Ruth and Mantle thrown into the mix. I also collect some sets. Currently collecting Sport kings, T206, and T207's. I used to collect E103's but sold most off to get other cards.
Where is your favorite place to pick up cards? My favorite place is Robert Edwards Auction, but, ebay the most accessable place is ebay
Which card in your collection is most valuable? Either my 52' Mickey Mantle or my E90-1 Jackson
What card do you regret getting rid of? My first pre war card, a T206 Green portrait Cobby that I traded away for a bunch of common T206's. Stoopid rookie mistake, I thought that I needed a jump start for the T206 set. Idiot! I would pay double to get that card back. I still have a scan of it and posted it on the BST on the Net 54' to no availe. Oh well, I will always be on the look out for that card

Re: YOUR COLLECTION
How long have you been collecting pre-war baseball cards? Off and on 20+ years, took time with girls, and cars when I should have been messing with cards.
What got you into the hobby? My dad's cards and a sizable find and purchase when I was 15 or so.
What is your favorite Tobacco card type? Several T206, T210, T212 & N300 come to mind.
What is your favorite E card type? E107 and Crofts are up there not far behind are E93.
What is your absolute favorite card in your collection? Post a pic. It would be easier to tell you what body part I would rather have cut off.
But here's a pic of say two of my top 20 favs. (for now )
How many cards are in your collection? Just a little over 1800+ cards.
Are you a type collector or a set collector, or both? Both, mostly types as of late and a few sets that I've been working on for years.
Where is your favorite place to pick up cards? Ebay today, but in the past auctions and flea markets.
Which card in your collection is the most valuable? Hard to say but I would guess with the grade hunters and T206 set collectors, and with high grade raritys in short supply. Today at the right auction this card could go high but you never know.
What card do you regret getting rid of the most? Answering as a pure collector any card I've ever sold....

Re: YOUR COLLECTION
How long have you been collecting pre-war baseball cards? Since about 89 or 90.
What got you into the hobby? I have collected baseball cards since the early 70s when I was about 7 or 8. The Topps packs with the gum in them. Pre war started when I got my first Cobb in 89 or 90. A T206 bat on ex for $100. This card now is in a 5 holder and I still have it.
What is your favorite Tobacco card type? T206s
What is your favorite E card type? E106s because of the Baltimore players in it.
What is your absolute favorite card in your collection? Post a pic. This changes all the time-today it is an OJ Sommers
How many cards are in your collection? This is tough. My system crashed and all my cards are at my dads and I haven't totaled in awhile. About 700-T206 and about 100 types.
Are you a type collector or a set collector, or both? Both-close on T206 and started a E95 and also have many types.
Where is your favorite place to pick up cards? The Philly show
Which card in your collection is the most valuable? not really sure -I will never sell!!
What card do you regret getting rid of the most? everyone that I ever got rid of but the most would probably be a Willis Broad Leaf 460
A card I want and don't have- a Virginia Extra with a Baltimore player

How long have you been collecting pre-war baseball cards? 25 years
What got you into the hobby? I found my cards from the 50s and realized that I had the entire 500 club except for Ott and Foxx and Ruth' And the possibility of obtaining a Babe Ruth baseball card was initially compelling. But before I could do that, I found that there was an OJ player with the same last name as mine. And I was off. Next I got my impression of the best and worst hitters: Hornsby and Bergen. Then other record holders .... eventually organized by year of accomplishment, where feasible.
What is your favorite Tobacco card type? OJ
What is your favorite E card type? CJ
What is your absolute favorite card in your collection? Post a pic. It is a key, and hard to find. But not contemporary, solely the best I could do (so far).
How many cards are in your collection? Pre-war = 200, all baseball = 300, all cards = 1000.
Are you a type collector or a set collector, or both? neither, as explained above.
Where is your favorite place to pick up cards? ebay - gives me time to minimize my impulsiveness.
Which card in your collection is the most valuable? Ruth, w517
What card do you regret getting rid of the most? I've gotten rid of very few cards. I have sold, traded or given away lots of my 50s stuff tho. I have no regrets.

Re: YOUR COLLECTION
Hi Jerry, I second the big welcome. Never be afraid to ask questions or chime in here. Anyone that has a Keefe like that has a nice collection and to own a Dogs Head, I would probably have to sell 20% of my collection to own one.
Once again, welcome aboard and enjoy,
Lee
