Wow, an e107 Wagner. Game over. I'm not gonna show my other $9 for the rest of the month.
That's a card that you don't even worry about condition and just take it when it's offered and worry about a nicer one later on if it happens to appear. At least you have one which very, very few people can say. Not like that dime a dozen Ewing w/mascot

I think it's an appealing looking AUT. The flaws are severe but superficial - they don't disturb the image of Wagner. Also, the card is in once piece, with no alterations to enhance the appearance. It's been alot of fun watching your E107 HOFer collection grow, Brian. Here's to continued success!
Re: August 2010 pick up thread
Wow!!! Just catching up on the August pickups and I come across a E107 Wags! Really? Thats one of the top cards in our hobby and thats an example I have never seen before.
Seriously awesome pickup!

Brian,
Incredible pick-up on the Wagner. As others have stated, condition does not matter on that card. Truly a cornerstone card of any collection, one that should probably stay in your collection forever. Now....what do you want to trade for that bad boy? I have an endless supply of 1987 Topps that has your name written all over it, I've received several offers already so better act fast

Why do you say that?
Re: August 2010 pick up thread
I saw it too at the National and was pretty excited about it, thought it was priced too cheaply too. It was at the Huggins table, correct?
My friend who showed it to me later expressed real doubts over if it was Connor just by the looks of the guy pictured so he did a little more research. Turns out it came from this REA lot and was sold with a very similar Radbourn cabinet.

Well that Radbourn later turned up in a Huggins auction and many doubts came up on n54 if it was in fact really Radbourn, enough so that the sale was actually canceled by Huggins. Even photo id expert Mark Fimoff did not think it was him (he also comments on the Connor), here's the n54 thread...

So that's why I don't think it is Connor despite the fact that it has Connor's name written on the back (which is why I think SGC just assumed it to be him). I'm very surprised that Huggins sold it after the Radbourn incident.

Re: August 2010 pick up thread
Thanks for the information Jeff - I will be contacting SGC to find out how they determined that it was in fact Connor (in their opinion). It was awfully cheap, I agree. I did purchase this from Huggins.
I will be very disappointed, to put it mildly, if SGC went with a name on the back of the card to confirm the identity of the subject.

Re: August 2010 pick up thread
Sorry man, I know it sucks! SGC will make it right with you if Huggins won't. I actually spoke to SGC about the Connor at the National.

Re: August 2010 pick up thread
Here's a couple I picked up over the weekend. First one, someone was smoking something at GAI and labeled it as "Ed Collins"...kind as I am, I cropped it to spare you all the laughs. In any case, it'll be coming out of that holder pretty quick.

Would you mind telling me what they told you about the Connor? You can PM me if you do not want to discuss this publicly.
Re: August 2010 pick up thread
I have spoken with SGC and they are going to look into this for me. They were very helpful, as they have always been with me, so I have high hopes that this will be resolved to my satisfaction one way or another.
Re: August 2010 pick up thread
I'm in the camp that says it is probably not Connor. A quick search for pictures of him shows him a much higher hairline and always sporting a handlebar mustache that extends past his lips. It does resemble him, but the hair and mustache are all wrong.
The other thing we forget in our excitement to find a ballplayer in street clothes is that names are not unique. I'm sure there were more than a few guys with the name Roger Connor running around at that time.

Wow. Incredible amount of drama in that Net54 thread.

Pretty telling to look at these photos and see that my cabinet is not Roger Connor (the baseball player). Mine is the first photo, and the second one is taken from a Stephens cabinet of Roger Connor, the third is a photo of connor from BaseballReference.com and the fourth image is a close up of the baseball reference photo, without color enhancement.
Re: August 2010 pick up thread
Here's a couple I thought would be neat together. Picked up the regular E97 issue at the national and just got the b/w in hand from elsewhere...
