January 2010 Pickup Thread

Won this cool little booklet on eBay... It's a salesman book for the American Tobacco Company for 1912, listing the brands and prices they produced. I've never seen anything like it before.

Jon, that booklet is a very special piece! Never seen anything like it either. I wonder how many pages it contains. The condition of the booklet is especially impressive.

I know it's not baseball, but I love all the horizontals in the Scappers set.

Thanks guys - I dont actually have it in hand yet so I'll know more when I get it. I assume the cigarette list is cut off and other brands appear on the previous page which isn't pictured (as it appears the list is alphabetical, hence why American Beauty, Broadleaf, Carolina Brights, etc are not listed). Interestingly enough, however, it appears Uzit was no longer a brand being produced in 1912. This might explain the rarity of the cards (ie: unpopular brand so not many where ever smoked to yield cards). Of course, that means there is a warehouse somewhere filled with unopened cases of Uzits.

I just received some auction lots I won of 1904 Fan Craze AL. I managed to secure all the lots I needed to obtain the entire Red Sox team (9 cards). In the process I obtained a few others that I'll keep and a few that I have now sold.

I won't bore you by showing you all 9...if you are interested, they are all scanned in my Photobucket...but here is the prize of the bunch, Cy Young:

i'd say the d359 bender and cj plank are neck-in-neck for coolest card pu this month...the tobacco notebook is hella neat, shame it didn't contain any salesman samples of the cards (PROOOFFF)

I like the Buchner set. I have contemplated making a long term run at it. I have the Anson and Clarkson so only 141 more cards to go. That's also my first Anson and probably my last!
