May 2008 Pickup Thread
Been a while since posting on any board. I've been super busy. Here's a few that arrived in April that I wasn't able to show.
I can't remember if I showed this one:
And a T207 with Napoleon Back:
These are actually pickups from the last month and a half to 2 months that I haven't shown yet. Been slacking a bit.

Re: May 2008 Pickup Thread
I have more to show when I have some time. I've sold off a lot of my type cards to purchase the new ones, or just straight up made trades. Been really strapped for new funds to "add" to my collection, so I'm recycling

Thanks Todd. To top it off, it was a PSA 6 (which I paid PSA 6 price for) that got crossed in the holder to a SGC 84. I'm happy

boring and predictable. my plan for the card:
1. crack holder
2. trim left side
3. get psa6
4. ????
5. profit!

Super duper card Quan! Congrats on a fantastic looking piece! I remember when I was part of the N54 group going after the e103 set in mastro around 3 years ago. I was slotted to get the Wagner until the price blew up and we ended up losing out to Robert. Always wanted that card, but can't afford it anymore.

Sick! I really wanted to pull the trigger on the E103 Cobb or Lajoie - the Matty was a bit washed out and the Wagner was beyond my means - but siding, windows and gutters are going to have to come first. Well, unless I can bring home a winner in REA.
OT: "We want the happy bunny," says my 5-year-old, who's here next to me. "Not the dancing banana."
Re: May 2008 Pickup Thread
mark i did win the wagner...although i'm a little agitated right now coming home to find out i didn't win something in heritage. you're always looking at the next thing and the chase. i want to go back in time where bunnies are better than wagners...kids are the best yawie!
p.s. oh yea the sickest illest gotta be wes with the t206 matty proof! that's like literally a 1/1? wes is top dog as usual.

Re: May 2008 Pickup Thread
Fun fun fun. From the past month or two:
Miss Alta Weiss. She pitched for men's semipro teams around 1907. One of the few female players from this era that is not anonymous - most cards and images are of people unknown. From Rhys's great new site - check it out.
Another from Rhys. Not sure what it is but it is very cool. It is a litho of Charlie Bennett from the 19C Detroit team.
Neat 1906 PC of Grand Rapids minor league team. I didn't even know we had a team from that time. Dan Bretta says that several of these guys may have made the majors, but I haven't had time to sit down and figure out who's who yet.
Finally, a womens team from Withee (as id'd on the pennant in the picture). Not sure of year, but it is about the same time as many others - 1910 give or take. The card isn't in great shape, but the photo is just crystal clear.
Fun fun fun!

Re: May 2008 Pickup Thread
Hey Dan, I'm a real novice when it comes to cig packs, but that Dogs Head seems like a real score! Any estimates regarding time period? Any chance it could have contained a Dogs Head baseball card at one time?
Joann - Miss Weiss wielded a serious piece of lumber there! Cool card and pickup. The Bennett piece is intriguing as well. Let us know if you discover anything regarding its origins.

Re: May 2008 Pickup Thread
Ben, the Dogs Head pack is stamped Oct 1 89 on the back...I don't know if it had a card or not. The only Dogs Head baseball I'm aware of is the Cabinet photos. Perhaps this held one of the many Goodwin & Co. nonsport cards?
Re: May 2008 Pickup Thread
Circa 1890's cabinet of an unidentified black baseball player. Decked out with a nice ring bat on shoulder and ball in hand.
It's extremely tough finding any baseball related items from this era that include black players.
This is probably one of the best I have come across.
