Re: August Pick-Ups
that Titte card always kind of freaked me out. Looks like a giant (no pun intended) head on a tiny body.
Re: August Pick-Ups
I agree, Jay. That's quite the melon he's got there.

Yeah, the angle at which they shot the photo is unfortunate. But at least he's not bleeding from the head like in that famous Berman photo (which I think was taken that same year).

I don't like it all. Seems kind of amateurish and home made. I'm a lot of it has to do with marketing. Change the slab and the collectors that are OC will want to have the same type of slab on all their cards, so it will generate some re-grade fees for them.
Re: August Pick-Ups
that sgc slab was an interim design...the final/new one is now out...and is better.

Re: August Pick-Ups
Thanks, Z. My collection started with the '53 Topps Paige (it was raw, but I've since upgraded to a PSA5, pic below), so he'll always own a soft spot in my collecting heart. This gives me two of the three cards he was issued in national sets during his playing career (so far as I know). The one I don't have is his short-printed card in the 48/49 Leaf set. That one I just can't afford, unless an acceptable low-grader comes along. I hope it does, but the SP's in that Leaf set draw big money, even if they're commons, so I gotta think I'm gonna get priced out of a Paige at any grade.
Ah, well. That's for later. If the price gets too high, I can always apply a 'hesitation pitch.' For now, I'm enjoying having two Paige cards.

Nice 70T Hanburger! I'd love to acquire his '67 Philly RC, as I'm a die-hard 'Skins fan, but it tends to run high when graded at a decent number.

Thanks. Philadelphias seem to suffer from poor centering, rough edge cuts, and they are VERY popular.

Re: August Pick-Ups
Hey, a version of that went for only a grand on REA last year. It could be yours, Jay!
(Or was this one of the Big Ten and you got rid of it?)

Doh! I screwed up. I've gone into syndication. Enjoy the repeats! I belong on TVLand.
However, the Waner is new.

Re: August Pick-Ups
I hope I don't create a double post since it looks like my first effort failed. I don't post much but I thought I'd share my recent Huggins & Scott pick up. My first tougher back. I have always thought the Cycle back was pretty cool.

Thanks Jay! That must have been pretty amazing to see all those Cycle 460's all together.
