Re: February 2008 Pickups
Nice cards Patrick - I though of you today when I was going through the recent Mastro catalog and noticed an awesome Catcher card - hope you win the one I am talking about (if you need it)!

Just a reminder, because of the way we have this forum set up, don't feel obligated to follow rules from other forums. When you get a new card, feel free to start a new thread. You won't be burying other topics here. This portion of board is dedicated to recent pick ups, so post away and start as many new threads as you want when you get cards.

Not the kind of thing I normally collect..but was kind of neat. Its written by Roy Mack (Connie's son). He would eventually be one of the team owners..at this point though I believe he was just the secretary.

I'll second that. I guess old habits die hard. Plenty of space here to start a new thread with each of our pickups. That way, every pickup will get more attention/comments instead of being buried in a 100 post monthly thread.
Re: February 2008 Pickups
Ben & Jay, the only reason I started these monthly pickup threads a while back (and strayed from the way you guys wanted people to simply post) was that these seem to get more participation. People weren't posting many new pickups as a thread. However, they do post in these monthly pickup threads. Must be the peer pressure.

Re: February 2008 Pickups
Either way is fine. It's jsut a friendly reminder that we don't have have a lot of constraints and limitations of other forums. If someone wants to start a monthly pickup thread, that's fine, but also not an issue if someone doesn't want to share the spotlight and start their own thread for ther recent pickup.

Hey Scott,
I did see the catcher cabinet in the Mastronet catalog. I have never won anything from any of the auction houses since I prefer bargains on eBay that don't have crazy buyer's fees.
I started the Febraury Pickup thread since I saw a January Pickup thread. I realize the powers that be created this forum because they didn't agree with the rules or the direction that the Forum 54 chatboard have taken, but I believe having specific themed threads can be beneficial to the "readability" of the site.
Just an observation...

Agreed. Whichever way people are comfortable posting their pickups is totally fine.sabrjay wrote:Either way is fine. Pat and Scott might be on to something. The monthly thread seems to encourage more participation and people might like seeing all the pickups in one thread for "readability" purposes. Whatever the case may be, lets get back to those pickups!vintagecatcher wrote:I believe having specific themed threads can be beneficial to the "readability" of the site.

And we don't mean those pickups on the corner or those things with 4 wheels.

Quan - love that Lajoie (that has always been my favorite pose/background of Lajoie)!
Patrick - If you decide to go for that beautiful cabinet, good luck! It is a beauty. I have to admit something, you always posting those great catcher card images on Net 54 caused me to secretly collect some catcher cards - especially when I was working on the 150 only series with all backs - I had a HOARD of Powers cards! I can see why you like collecting cards with images of catchers with their equipment, as they are fascinating!
Either way people want to post acquisitions is fine (as Ben and Jay stated). You can do about what you want on this forum in regards to posting (just keep things civil of course).

I agree. I like the one thread for all our pickups.
Quan, beautiful Lajoie Nadja. Love that card.

Boy Jerry you don't mess around when you buy. Nice pickups. I have always been curious where Wallace is suppose to be in that T3 pose. It looks like he is out on the mound and staring down the pitcher after he chased him away with his bat.

Thanks Guys
Jay, That M101-5 Walsh is mislabeled as a blank back making it 1 of none. There has been no Ed Walsh Famous & barr graded by either company. I'm going to cross it over to SGC.

Re: February 2008 Pickups
Super nice pickups Jerry! They are all stunning - showing why "mid grade" cards (SGC 50's) are the best bargain in Vintage Cards. You get the eye appeal of an 8 for a fraction of the price one of those overpriced (and more than likely trimmed or altered in some way) 8's would cost!
Lee, I know some comedians have touched on it. But, come to think of it, if someone hit me with a 99 mph fast ball while batting, I would take the bat out to the mound when I charge the mound!

Scott, Your preaching to the Choir on SGC 50's. I love to cherry pick them.
Re: February 2008 Pickups
A whopping 99 cents from a zero feedback seller. Only bad thing is the back. Appears as if it has a glue stain.
