Re: March 2008 Pickups
Yeah, there was no scan of the back of the Cobb in Mastro, but I still foolishly bid anyway with the hopes that the back wouldn't be too demolished. It's a pretty banged up card and the grade is hardly a miscarriage of cardboard justice given the couple areas on front when the creasing gets pretty heavy, but it still looks nicer than what I was expecting. Which is great, because that pose was probably in my Top 5 of most desired cards.
The funny thing is that I think I like the Matty even more than the Cobb. Must be the sidewaysness. Or maybe the pretty sky:
This was probably the nicest card in the group, though, in terms of appeal vs. actual grade:
Yeah, the centering kinda sucks, which really doesn't bother me, but this is one of the nicer 3/40's I've ever had.

The Matty horizontal is one of the all-time classic cards in the hobby. Almost as good as my e92 Oakes

Re: March 2008 Pickups
Just picked this guy up, do these carry any kind of premium for being a Southern Leaguer?

Re: March 2008 Pickups
Sean, tbh, those come up so infrequently that I don't really know if a Sl'er carries a premium or not. That is ONE AWESOME card however ! If you ever decide to sell, I would LOVE to have a shot at it at least!

Nice Pick ups Guys. Tony, I like that cdv
I got a nice caramel coming but scan was bad, I'll post it when I get it. In the mean time I'll lower the bar with a Raw VG Common.
Thanks Steve

About time a buy a card....
Won this yesterday, with the Ebay coupon i had it cost me a cool $399. I figured its a decent price for a high grade HOF with scarce back. I canceled by VCP membership so i don't have stats on sales.

Re: March 2008 Pickups
That Mattern is probably one of the few cards I miss from my T206 selloff, Trae. A 20's better than what I thought it would get, but it doesn't really matter since I think the front of the card looks phenomenal.

Mattern has always been my number one favorite for attractiveness. Sorry I sold mine.

Re: March 2008 Pickups
I am not really collecting portraits Mark - it was offered in a recent trade and I accepted - sorry, didn't mean to alarm you.
BTW - sorry, no 300 subjects back.

Re: March 2008 Pickups
These showed up today. I'm trying to figure out why I bought the Tobin as I already have his 1939 Play Ball card. Guess it'll be going up for sale/trade. The other 2 are "only" cards.

Mark, I will hold the Wagner and give you time to pick up a nice Uzit or Red Hindu - I am sure I might part with the Wagner then!
