Which Delahanty would you rather own?
Re: Which PSA N172 Delahanty would you rather own?
You are missing wonka's point. I don't think anyone has bought a Wagner and then immediately tried to turn around and sell it for more that what they just paid. It's usually a few years before a particular card will hit the market again.

I see cards sold on ebay every day, then the same card relisted a week later at a higher buy it now price. I must be the only one that sees this.

And they don't sell there either.

exactly...just because people are doing it...doesn't mean they're successful. It is unusual to be able to immediately re-sell a "just purchased" card that was purchased at retail. Sure...maybe someone missed the auction who was willing to pay more...but this is like day trading...looking for small profits from each transaction...you'd need to operate in volume to be profitable.
And I really HATE all of these references to "investing" and "business" in relating to these pieces of cardboard(Which I am obviously guilty of as well)...this is part of the problem!

These guys have replied to you with everything that I would have said Eric.
No hard feelings or anything guy.
I understand you saw my hammer price of 30k and figured yours is a PSA 5 it should be worth at least half and could have seen a nice upside right? Perhaps you got lucky and on the ground floor of a Delahanty craze or something I get it all good.
But the facts are simple you just bought this card at a public auction less than a month ago.
You have had the card listed on eBay and every forum from 16k down to 11k or so. If the card was in that range quite frankly the card would have sold for such a number in REA a very public auction. Or if your price was so good you would have sold this card via eBay or a BST by now without all the price drops.
We are also talking a limited or more obscure card not some Mantle card that anybody may want or you snagged cheap. When you get into 5 figure cards buyers become less and the market is more defined. IMO.
A lot of it has to do with psychology folks have a hard time paying big increases on something they just watched go for 30% cheaper. Folks also always pull the cheapest auction hammer to negotiate price when doing a deal. I love this nobody ever pulls 20 auctions and picks an avg. they pick the one anomaly and say “look a similar card sold for this, so I’ll offer you this” no matter if 12 other cards sold for twice or equal to what I’m asking. LOL
Look I do it myself to a degree.
I have a T206 Lenox on eBay now, the card is a 4-5k card in the current market but I tossed it up with the 6k BIN on the odd chance somebody popped, or the fact that folks will want to negotiate before buying to feel they won. I also won this card years ago for 1.5k or so. If I had just won the card in REA for 1.5k last month and then listed it for 6k that’s when you get way less play.
Cheers,
John

"Bad business" is hijacking a thread to advertise your overpriced card. Of course we all saw that card sell in REA, it is not fresh to the market.
Eric won that with an autobid, meaning there weren't two underbidders, so if he puts it up for auction the bottom could fall out on the price.
A PSA 5 Delahanty is a fairly steady card and should recoup most of its value in an auction. But, Eric, bro, you should keep the card!
All future thread hijacking should be referred to the "Thread-hijacking Thread" found in the Bullpen section.
Cheers
