Bridging the gap: N172 to E107
One of the interesting things about the E107 set is that it features a good number of veteran 19th century players that were nearing the end of their careers. How many players appeared in both the N172 Old Judge and E107 Breisch Williams sets? How about N172 and T206? Not nearly as many obviously - any you can think of off the top of your head besides Duffy and Latham?
I'll start us off and will expand the list as people add to it....
N172 AND E107:
Rip Van Haltren
Jimmy Ryan
Tom Daly
James "Deacon" Mcguire
Duke Farrell
Ed Delahanty
Herman Long
Lave Cross
Kid Gleason
Ned Hanlon
Jake Beckley
Bill Hallman
N172 AND T206
Hugh Duffy
Arlie Latham
Clark Griffith
Jake Beckley

Good stuff Steve. I'm pretty sure Duke Farrell was in both N172 and E107 although I don't have the images on hand.

Just looking quickly at the e107 checklist you can add the following...
n172 to e107:
Herman Long
Lave Cross
Kid Gleason
Ned Hanlon
also add Clark Griffith to N172 to t206 list

Thanks for the input everyone. So we've now got 12 N172's-E107's and 4 N172's-T206's. That's probably most of them although there could be a few more from the first group.

I am at work and don't have the Baseball Encyclopedia in front of me but aren't there 2 different players named Bill Hallman. I had thought the two guys were different.

Yes, there are two different Bill Hallmans.
I believe that the one shown on the OJs 209-1 through 5 with Philadelphia is William Wilson Hallman, a 14 year 2Bman primarilly with Phila. NL, but also AA & PL.

Actually William Wilson Hallman is one of the few players that make the triple jump from N172 to N300 to E107.
Also making the jump is Lave Cross, Herman Long, Tom Daly, Ed Delahanty & Jimmy Ryan.
Hugh Duffy and Arlie Latham skip the E107 set and land into the N172--N300--T206 tirple jump.

And those eight players would certainly make for an extremely interesting 24 card theme set, in part because of their diverse, significant accomplishments and histories. But unfortunately, for many of us, Delahanty will break the bank.
