Collecting Goals for 2010?
With the new year quickly approaching, I thought it might be a good time to discuss our collecting goals for the upcoming year. Mine are fairly loose. I would like to accomplish the following:
- Pick up another substantial 19th century type card. My pickup of the year for 2009 was my N321 SF Hess Sweeney. Doubt I'll top that, but in a perfect world I would like to pick up a N172 Harry Wright, or a N162 Anson, or perhaps a Yum Yum or G&B common.
- Add some more T213 Coupon HOFers in collector grade. So far I only have Mcgraw and Johnson, so this is a doable goal for me.
How 'bout you

I'm more than half way through the Delong set with Greenberg being the most expensive card left, so I'd like to be able to finish the set this year. I also want to keep adding to my t205 Sovereign subset.

I hope to add one of the following types to my stable: T214, T216, T217, T209 color, t206(Uzit, drum or bl 460). As well as continue to add odder HOF issues.

Not really a 205 collector but I am a little familiar with the set and have a question-how many cards in the set can be found with the Sovereign back?

Going form the master set checklist, there are currently 141 cards verified with a Sovereign back.

I would like to finish the monster (about 90 more to go) maybe pick up another d304 and also trim a little off my t212 (175 subject) subset. maybe sell off some t3's will see later BOB

Well I'm just gonna keep on doing what I've been doing - collecting nice examples of pre-War Red Sox. I will say that 2009 has been perhaps my busiest year ever with this...definitely the most since the 1990s.
I'd like to try to crack some of the toughies on my Red Sox list:
E107
some more T204
some scarce T207
E90-1 Tris Speaker
And outside of my Red Sox collecting, I'll keep chipping away at my E92 Dockman PSA project.

My main focus has always been baseball related cigarette packs. I would really like to add a Carolina Brights to my collection this year. Doing so would almost round out the T-206 brands for me (minus a few unobtainable ones such as Hindu).

Greenberg? You mean Gehringer or Gehrig?

My goal is simply to stay interested somehow, and stay active in the hobby.

you got one foot out the door king? if so then don't look back i say. i would not recommend this hobby to anyone these days, 5-6 years ago it would've been a different story.
as for '10 goals...pick up a card i've never owned like an e94 young....maybe try something new, like a '41 playball set, or '38 goudey heads-up. i've been saying i'll start a set for the past few years now tho.

Now I'm really confused. Always thought he was Jewish for some reason.

Not getting out ... just not finding stuff I'm interested in lately...and combined with not wanting to delve into new sets ... it means very few cards coming in, which leads less looking, which leads to even fewer cards ... which leads to forgetting about the hobby for weeks at a time now.

Welcome to my world, but lack of funds is what keeps the cards from coming in for me.

ok so i just got this the email, saying the card sold for $1500.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190328230513&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_956
i offered to buy the card from the seller 2 mos ago for $1500 and i go pick it up with the condition he provided a back scan, NEVER heard back. i guess he likes to eat the paypal/ebay fees and pack up the card to ship. there are many dumb people and dealers in this hobby...

I hate when things like that happen-I also hate when a seller expects you to purchase a $1500 card with no back scan.
There are many dealers with high dollar cards on ebay with no back scan - I will never understand that.

Re: Collecting Goals for 2010?
Many cards don't have back scans, not just high end.
My guess.....because Ebay gives 1 picture for free, then charges for everything else.
I just listed a card at $75 BIN price and the fees are $7.50. Then getting smacked with the PayPal fee, I would rather keep the 15 cents or so per extra picture. I include a link to Photobucket for back scans. And if I don't link to the Photobucket scan, I always state to ask me and I'll send one. Lastly, with the larger sellers, it might be too time consuming, costly and cumbersome to scan everything.

you need to get the professor's dvd on ebay selling...most of the listings on ebay is free now. they get you on the back-end.
the young seller would rather lose $150 in fees, pack up the card to ship...rather than sitting there sipping iced tea admiring the card waiting for me to drive 40min up there to hand him the $1500 cash...mbn diagf fml
i will get the next e94 young for sure as i was underbidder on the current sgc30 red that belongs to a dealer...(my bid was $17xx in barry's). not sure why these dealers keep outbidding me when they don't even want the cards
