What's your collecting goals for 2013?
The new year is approaching. So what are your collecting goals for 2013?
For me, my goals are tied directly to the success of my BBQ sauce business. I got the forms yesterday for my wholesale and retail licenses. Once they are processed and I have the licenses in hand, product will be hitting the shelves by the end of January. If I can add one worthy card to the Gang of 10 in 2013 I'll be happy, but first priority for the money is getting the business running smoothly first.

hmmm...i plan to continue to sell off about 60% of my collection...keeping my e94 set... all louisiana issues...my ruths...cobbs...gehrigs...various other types I like.
I hope to upgrade some e94's...add some new miller fielding backs to my collection...pickup anything that strikes my fancy or that I think I can make a buck reselling it!
Additionally...My neverending quest for an e97 nichols phil variation will inch forward! [img][/img][img][/img]

pete--what happened to your e90-2 set? imo that's an underrated set overshadowed by the wagner card.
i hope to keep trucking on, collecting whatever strikes my fancy, maybe a new panerai...been on my mind alot lately.

My goal is to buy nothing and to sell nothing. There are a couple cards out there I would bid on if a great copy came to auction, but it's unlikely to happen. So I'm just holding tight for once.

e90-2 set is on the chopping block! Going to rea in spring. I loved the wagner...but the rest of the set meant nothing to me...it was my 1st vintage set...we'll always have that!!!!

Personally, I'm glad to hear you're not thinning the herd down to 3 cards. Not to dredge up the debate of what constitutes a collection again.
I hope to try to narrow my focus somewhat for 2013. It feels like I have been spreading myself thin as of late. I also hope to actually complete a subset of cards I am working on...Obak, T207, Zeenut, whatever. I also think I may be headed to the National for the first time ever if I can keep my s.o. confused long enough. It'd be great to try Jay's BBQ sauce firsthand.

Thanks, I'm glad I didn't sell, also. It got pretty hairy in there this fall with some low prices. Too many auctions and not enough buyers. If Sterling results are any indication, things should turn around this spring.
Cheers

Re: What's your collecting goals for 2013?
2012 ended up being a pretty big transition year for my collection. I don't anticipate as much action in 2013, but I do hope to add a few more Bender cards to my collection, and maybe one more E107 HOFer.
I came close to nabbing the T204 Bender on ebay right now, but despite numerous emails requesting a back scan, I've received no response from the seller. I'd love to add a super tough Bender to my stable....maybe a 1910 Punch or a E224 Texas Tommy or something of that nature.

Ben, you did great this year. Time to take a breather, and enjoy the incredible E107 auction in Legendary this winter. Happy New Year's.

Re: What's your collecting goals for 2013?
Thanks Jamie. Yes, a breather is a great idea, and my current plan. The Legendary E107 offering will certainly be something to behold. I wonder how the results will do in comparison to previous sales, and what effect the auction will have on E107 prices overall.
I was looking back at my Goodwin catalog from August and felt a twinge of regret when I saw the N175 Gypsy Queen Pud Galvin. Doesn't really fit my current collecting goals, but such a cool card and sold for what I thought was a relative bargain at 4.2k.

Oh yeah, that Galvin was nice, you were right not to go after it, though. Discipline. That was when I went crazy for my Whitney with Dog, same auction. Love the card, though.
I think prices will be very strong on the E107 set because all the collectors will be looking to upgrade, plus new collectors will step in with cash to try to collect the set.

I think e107 prices will come down for the short term, much like when Freund sold his e107 collection through REA a few years ago. Will be a great buying opportunity, especially those just looking to add one or two as a type. I'm sure some cards will go really high, but overall I expect prices to be soft.

You could be right, but I view it as a buying opportunity for those with the means to get the cards. Those are the finest E107's right there. A lot of E107's are pretty beat up but those ones are beautiful.

You'll know which of the e107s are the rarities in the set as those are the ones that will go for crazy prices

To find a T210 Hooker to finish off my Series 2 set.

My goal is to organize and thin out my collection. I collect everything and it's just too much. Getting to be more like a hoarding thing. Baseball, hockey, football, even some non-sport. At age 58 I could drop dead of a heart attack and my wife would have no idea what they were worth. Of course if she ever knew how much I have spent on cards she'd probably kill me!

For 2013 I'd like to continue to add '04-'05 Giants cabs. I can't field a team yet, but we can throw it around the bases.
If you want to lock me into a single card ... I'd really like to find a non-T3 McGraw cabinet.

What are your options in regard to this Chris? I know of two different W600 poses and I assume he has a Pinkerton cabinet as well. No others readily came to mind.

To complete the first and only known master set of 1933 Sea Raiders or at least I think no one else is doing this. The low numbers can be found with 4 different backs and the high numbers can be found with 2 different backs each. I am 2 cards away from a complete master set and I know who has them.

Cool! I believe that is the image that was used for the E92 (and others) McGraw card...
