Whats your favorite current beater in your collection?
I know this can change weekly, if not daily..but this has been my favorite "beater" in my collection for a while now. Just like the look of the set (colorful for a pre-1900 set)

I don't have many "beaters". While condition is not necessarily important for a card that I want or need I am concious of a card's eye appeal. My favorite beater has to be the 1911 Miller Zeenut. It has been trimmed to the bone and has a few creases but is a very difficult card to acquire because Brian has been hoarding them.

I'm a big fan of the Kimballs too, Dave. I've actually been thinking about putting together a complete set of 50 in lowgrade.
To answer your question - my e104 Mack is probably my favorite beater but since I've shown that one before, here's a 1915 unc Nap Rucker card that's in the running for the most creases award:
sorry for the poor scan.

My favorite beater is a new one. Courtesy of Barry Sloate and his wonderful auction. It's my first Wagner. A total beater, but you can tell it's been loved. And an E106 to boot!

Nice beaters are nice. Good, honest wear equals a nice beater to me. These are keepers.
The poke your eyes out with a pin type of beater is a desperation move by a temporarilly financially strapped individual, who can not stand to not own (any) example of the card. The collector knows he must upgrade eventually, but the "pressure" is off - and he can now be selective.
The same applys to a ripped back (or other problem) "presents well" beater. Those too are temporary. For me. Most trim jobs are in this catagory.
