T206 Missing Red Ink
Hi again,
Over the past couple months I have become interested in printing errors. Some cards that I am reading about are the Boston t206s with no red ink. These cards confuse me a little bit as I am not sure when to decide if it is missing red or not. Some cards have an almost invisible light yellow ink where the red was supposed to be and these are easy to distinguish from normal cards. However, there also seems to be some t206s that contain a slight pink where the red was supposed to be. Are these pink t206's considered to be missing red ink?
Thanks
-Randy

Re: T206 Missing Red Ink
The ones that are considered to be missing ink are the ones that missing any sign of ink.
Personally, I think these types of variations are interesting printing anomalies, but not a true variation like the the team name changes of Demmit, O'Hara etc. There are enough people that like these sorts of printing errors, so prices get driven up. The odd thing is, that in almost any other set, cards missing ink or color carry no premium.

Thanks Jay. I did not realize how much they were worth untill I looked them up in the SCD price guide. Is there any reason why Sweeny is much more expensive than the others?

I think that Sweeney was the first one to be notice and actively pursued. Someone that knows more about the set, like my brother, might be able to give a more in depth answer.

Well I think I found one on ebay and I was able to win it for a good price whether it's an error or not. What do you guys think?

Hi Randy,
I want to start by saying I am not an expert on this in any way. But I saw that card too, and my first and only thought was that that card was altered (erased) intentionally. My understanding is that the real printing anomaly card should be missing all red ink (so no red and no pink anywhere).

Hate to say it, but it's just part of the progression of how that variation came about. The red ink slowly ran out. If you are happy with it, that is all that counts.

I made this one, just to see if it could be done. Couldn't get the red totally removed (it was dark) but faded it considerably. It's a very unique alteration technique that would be mind blowing to collectors. I have the scan but can't find the card. Could be at GAI for their upcoming alteration library...not sure?
Collecting printing errors is my preference as well, with a goal is to own a yellow/brown print scrap some day.
Here is one missing yellow ink (compared to the norm)...T206's are actually tough to find in my opinion. Many that I've seen were doctored with the collectors insisting they are errors...but unfortunately not.
Just another reason why I swear by the new ultra high-end UV/LED loupes I personally use and have for sale.

Re: T206 Missing Red Ink
Anybody see the "Heinie" Wagner with missing ink that was on eBay?
If it is legit, then the buyer did very well!

P.S. I had a snipe set on it for $50, but it didn't go through.

The wagner looks like a reprint, the card stock appears wrong and the front has the colors and appearances of a reprint, the name does look good though. Not too fond of the mention of Honus so to me that looks like fishing for suckers.
To me all color should be missing, but it only takes 2 people to think otherwise to drive prices up.
Here is one of my color variation combos, I have seen a color inbetween those 2 colors:
I also have a Harry Howell with no red, but no scan right now.

background colors for that Willis protrait are all over the place, yet there is no premium for them. These are no different than the missing red Boston cards.

Lee: I'm positive that the Wagner was legit. Not too sure about the colors missing across the jersey and hat, though.
