nice t3s! argh my dodgers finally succumb to all the injuries...you can't compete with a triple A lineup in the playoffs. but mr lajoie is still smiling.
also a couple nice t206s mr lucas, the duffy is one of my favs in the set. i wish someday to get on course with the monster also...maybe in my golden age.

Sounds like sour grapes to me Quan. Your team played with its regular lineup, although a couple may have been sore, and was a pitching dominated team anyway--with all hands on board. Besides, the 1988 Dodgers proved you can win a World Series with a pathetic lineup--by far the worst team to win it all in my lifetime.you can't compete with a triple A lineup in the playoffs wrote:
BTW, nice LaJoie

Re: October 2013 pickups
no sour grapes, i'd like to think i'm also a fan of baseball and can be objective. kemp was hurt, hanley rendered useless after the hbp after game 1, that's 2 top 20 players right there. ethier was hurt and hobbling. i shudder to think any regular lineup having skip schumaker and nick punto. kershaw was a letdown in the last game, and i really want mattingly gone for his lack of tactical awareness and perversion with bunting. right now the sox and cards look like the healthiest, and that should be the ws.
dodgers should be the nl favorite next year with a healthy kemp and hanley...they will be scary if everyone put it together.

Let's face it - Mattingly is not that good a manager, but there are far worse, and players I think like him and respect him. He handles the media well - that's a key aspect in L.A. Tactical awareness can be improved, and it looks like he'll be back. But he did keep on making mistakes.
Injuries played a big role, but the Cards are a strong team. I'd hate to see another Sox-Cards WS, but it looks like it's going to happen.

Re: October 2013 pickups
Sorry Quan, but neither Punto nor Schumaker played much at all other than game 2. Kemp didn't play all year, and if he had, they'd likely not have caught lightning in a bottle with Puig the way they did--he would either have sat in the minors or split time, possibly affecting chemistry (and prevent them from going on their run). Forgive a Twins fans if I'm unmoved hearing a fan of the team with the second highest payroll in all of MLB complaining that his lineup is Triple A--I'm not buying it. Your lineup was fine, even with two ouchy players in it. Also, your opponent was missing Allen Craig--97 RBI and a huge BA with RISP, and managed to survive.

Twins fans have major psychiatric issues when it comes to discussing large market clubs.

Re: October 2013 pickups
It's the other way around. Yankees fans can't believe that you can actually put together a competitive team without spending more money than anyone else. They think any team without a monster payroll that wins is just lucky.

Picked-up this 1939 Churchman's Cigarettes Kings of Speed Set at Sterling... I might look into the Rugby/Futbol sets in this English series.

Re: October 2013 pickups
kemp's early part of season was the shoulder from last year. he was recovered after the break...the broken ankle was freaky and stupid afterward...ethier/crawford would've sat otherwise. hanley was rendered useless after game 1 and ethier can barely run. matt adams filled in capably after craig went down, st. louis just didn't have a bench. those are the facts, just like miggy being hurt changed the complexion of the AL series. yes the dodgers got beat by better pitching, but we didn't field our best team compared to what the cards trotted out.
anyways to keep this on-topic a pickup tonight from across the street...while u guys are duking it out in REA i picked this one up. and mattingly should still go (along with coletti), but they're probably gonna give him an extension.
