cccc wrote:it's very cool that your grandfather smoked these straight out of the polar bear pouches and saved these cards. just blows my mind that your family has that link to these cards. as collectors here we treasure those little guys and are just fascinated about anything that has to do with them. did he also pull the cracker jacks after eating the candy? where is your family from? i also see some philadelphia e96 caramels and e90-1s. please take some pics of the e90-1s. there are a few toughies in there and hof'ers that are worth some money also.
Great Grandpa was the smoker! His boy, my Grandpa's brother pulled the CJs out of the boxes of sweet caramel corn and peanut goodness. Family is from, well, er, Scotland! By way of Virginia and North Georgia, dispersed all over the place. I have 6, e90-1s including 2 HOFers (Mathewson and Clarke) but they are kind of banged up. I will definetly get good scans of them to post for you. It is the least I can do to return your hospitality! I also have about 30 (all together) e102s, e93s and e95s. There are 13 HOFers in that batch. The Kid seems like he was a pretty good trader!
EDIT: I bet he traded off his Polar Bear duplicates for the other types of cards. Savvy little dude!

At least I have the item, right? More seriously, we received an unusual coin collection sort of as a cast off. We did a little research, actually a lot of research, thought we might have something ha.com could market, and sent their coin specialist an excel file and jpegs of what we had. About 5 days later they told us they weren't interested. The point is, at least we knew where we stood with a large seller of coins of all types from all places. We would have called their expert to discuss their viewpoint, but we really are not that motivated.
I feel you will not have the same response from them. I want to assure you, but I cannot. Nevertheless, since they have a regular auction that should handle your business, there are plenty of other auction houses, like Sterling, that I would expect want your business. I can't speak for any of them, Sterling or ha.com, but you have what appears to be a fresh accumulation, and we collectors love those.
Thanks, the amount of good advice I have gotten in the last two days is PRICELESS!!!

To give you a bit history of the board, the biggest find to show up here became known as the Louisiana Find. It's included some incredibly rare t207s with Red Cross backs, a large group of T215 Red Cross cards and some t213 Coupons. This group was collector grade like yours and was sold by REA as one of their featured collections in the auction. It wouldn't hurt to talk to them and see what they have to offer.

I like this forum. You all have been very straight forward, honest and kind. I will let you know how things pan out, and I would not count out some sales on this forum in the BST section (or thru PMs). I would like to give back to this little community that has been such a pleasure to find. You guys are really great!
Thanks for the history of the site, I kind of had the feel for it being a cool forum after reading a bunch of posts.
Got to go for now, Theo

I can only vouch for Lee (Sterling), he does great work with making the most of what you have. Sold a nice lot of w513's recently through his auction. My 25 w513's; I was expecting $350 he delivered $460. VERY HAPPY WITH HIS SERVICE.
Thanks for posting, and for the advice. You talked about my exhibit cards, and I really can't find much info on them. I have some nice ones, the best might be the Jackie Robinson. They are postcard sized with blank backs. I'll see if I can't get one scanned. What can you tell me about them?

The exhibits from 47-66 are pretty plentiful but doing have a following, inexpensive way to get hall of famers. The exhibits issue are scarcer and draw more money.

Just finished cataloging a bunch of cards. Thought I would share the highlights with you guys. Getting into a different era, but I am very pleased to say that I feel like a collector again!
Check out Wayne front and center, playing for the AthlFtics! And I really like Ryne's shades. That is a cool card!

If you think that's ugly, then you'll love the Cubs team cards when they used floating heads instead of the standard team portrait. I've always liked the 1960 set. It was one of the first early Topps sets I put together.

Some people call these vintage, we just think much older. Very nice cards many would like to own.
Gee Pete, you even might be able to find a buyer for that guy names Mickey Mantle.

The Mick really is a sad story in some ways. In spite of all his fame, he drank his life away. Goes to show, as we have seen so many times with pop stars, how fame is such a temporary elixir, and no real replacement for intrinsic self-worth.
That said, his baseball career, along with the championships he won, was incredible. There is no taking that away from the man - his accomplishments speak for itself. It's a lot more homeruns than any of us have hit.

I have about 400 more 1950's cards to inventory, but I'll see if I can do some more of the "vintage" stuff for you tonight. I have really enjoyed pulling out the cards and going through them, but I am still a little paranoid about handling the old ones too much. I didn't have to pull them out of their sheet protectors to inventory them, but I do have to remove them to scan them.
Obviously I wash and dry my hands thoroughly first. Make sure my work area is clean and free of clutter. I even go so far as to make sure my nails are neatly trimmed first. Any other handling tips to make sure I preserve them?

I hit a triple once. Your comments about life are right on. I have to add that FAMILY is a big deal to me. I've been very blessed in that department. This is my best picture post to date!!!

Whew, nice to be back over here. I spent some time on Net54 to see what it was like, and post some scans for fun. Everyone was cool, but there were some aggressive buyers.
I didn't even advertise that the cards might be for sale.
Don't get me wrong, everyone was polite and business like, it just wasn't the same type of atmosphere that exists here on the Full Count Forum.
I missed you guys!

some of them are definitely more cut-throat over there and will test you to see if you know what you have value-wise for their own benefits...instead of just being helpful and pointing you in the right direction.

Re: New Guy (New Scans Posted)
Well, I am still learning about the cards, and having a great time doing it! I recently learned that the 1914 CJ Pratt card has a very low population. There were only 5 of the 1914 cards in my collection, and 135 of the 1915s. As luck would have it, one of those 1914s is the Pratt!
Zeider appears to be another difficult common, both due to the change in poses from throwing to portraits in the 1915 set.
