I'll be interested to see how many of these cards end up in the hands of fellow board members. I plan on winning one.
Re: T207 Red Cross (this is a must see for everyone)
A bump to highlight the top thread of last year.
Re: T207 Red Cross (this is a must see for everyone)
Bump to the top to make it easier for people to find this thread since REA auction is now live and catalogues are getting to people.
Re: T207 Red Cross (this is a must see for everyone)
Forgive me if I seem a little dense, I'm coming to this thread very late. Didn't follow it last year when it started. So, all those cards currently up for auction on REA as "The Louisiana Find," those are from this george guy? The scans on page 1 of this thread he sent off and got graded? Or is this two separate finds?

Yep, REA got them graded. I'm sure as part of the deal to get him to consign the collection to them. I've spent a fair amount of time talking with George and he and his wife are very nice, very down to earth people.

Did anyone catch the Antiques Road show tonight with these cards very cool?
I guess I wont be high bidder fro too much longer..LOL. Now these cards are rockstars.
Perhaps if I win some I should have George sign them.

Just steer clear of the ones I want
i missed the show. There is repeat tonight at midnight and another at 7pm on Saturday. I'll have to catch that one. Now I can put a face to person I've spent a lot time talking with about the collection.

Which one(s) do you want? Are we bidding each other up?

Re: T207 Red Cross (this is a must see for everyone)
By the front of these type 1 Red Cross cards you can't tell the difference from a t206 card. You need to flip them and see the ad and also study the timeline along with the checklist to be certain they are not a t206. The Matty white cap inclusion in the type 1 checklist is the key to say with certainty these type 1s are not a t206.
these are fantastic cards and very tough. I would say if put on a t206 scarcity list these would fit somewhere between Broad Leaf & Lenox and Uzit & Drum. They do not get their due but surely each will bring a heavy tag in REA. It is easy to tell type 1 Red Cross from type 2-type 1 has brown print on the caption and type 2 has blue print. The backs are the same.
glad to own a few and do not need to spring for one at this time.
Type 1
Type 2
Both backs say 100 designs and I am pretty sure both checklists are short of 100.

This collection proved that there are still uncatalogued cards out there to be found from this set.
Re: T207 Red Cross (this is a must see for everyone)
best I can find is a 89 checklist for type 1 and 79 for type 2. The Louisiana Find has a couple additions to both lists.

Re: T207 Red Cross (this is a must see for everyone)
Just got off the phone with George. As always, a great conversation. He gave more details about the time line of the collection.
The cards were collected by an uncle who died in 1936 and gave the cards to his grandmother. They remained in her house until 1940 when the family moved to Port Arthur. The cards remained in a Whitman's candy box stored in the attic until 1992. In 1995 the cards were loaned to the Gulf Coast Museum and on display that spring and summer. They went back into the closet where they sat until 2010. One of George's daughters had to tickets to the Antiques Road Show. She was unable to use them and asked if he wanted to go. They decided that they would take some of the cards with them to ARS on July 24th. After going there they started doing some research on the internet and that is how they found this forum and now they are in the current REA auction.
So that is the timeline of the collection.
