Historical fantasy baseball league Empty Historical fantasy baseball league

Post by sabrjay Thu Jan 01, 2009 9:02 pm

Time to get ready for another season of the historical fantasy baseball
league. All the rules and previous discussions about the league are
stickied in the Fantasy forum area for those that were not around for the first season.

We can run any number of teams for the league since we are using pretty
much all of baseball from 1871-1996. Make a post here that you want in
on the league this time around.

There really isn't a faster way to draft players. I know people want to put a team together right away, but at the the same time, there really is no rush to get the draft done. Personally, I liked watching the draft slowly unfolded. People had a chance to see who was drafted and comments made. To me, that was the real fun of the whole thing. We will probably do the same thing this time and when we get about 15 round in, switch to drafting 2 players at a time, but we will see how everyone wants to do it.

2 player draft per round sounds good.

You could draft by team/year/position - for example: 1926 Yankees infield, 1936 Cardinals pitching staff, 1887 Wolverines outfield, etc.

we will be sticking to a single player draft, drafting one player each round until the 15th or 16th round.

I got an Idea that would speed things up a bit.
You can only pick a player that you presently own a card of and when you make the pick you must show the card from your collection.
Just an Idea.

Only problem with that is people that have few if any HOFers are going to have a hard time putting together a viable team. This would also eliminate post WW2 players for many people.

Count me IN!

Drafting single players until rd 15, then double players after that, worked well last time. I like a slower, more methodical pace to the draft. Looking forward to it.

I'm hoping we can get a few more people to sign up. We currently have 9 people. I'd like to get to 12 and would love to get 16 people playing so we can have an old fashioned two 8 team leagues. Most likely I'll get things sorted out over the weekend and start up soon after that.

Mark, Nope couldn't leave Texas, Just downsizing to a smaller house with no stairs. Stairs are brutal on a old man , especially with the kitchen upstairs where you have to carry groceries up.

By the way Mark, Got the Davis today...Nice Card, Many Thanks for quick shipment.

Come people, let's step up to the plate and get in the game.

The draft is major part of the this league. Once the draft is completed, I run the line ups on the Diamond Mine baseball game. As the manager of the team you determine the lineup and you can either go with the default manager settings or use your own.

I know I ran away with the league last time, but that shouldn't scare you off Twisted Evil It make you all want to knock me off the throne nahnahnah

Are you allowed to down size in Texas? I would guess that is grounds for getting shipped out to New Mexico. Laughing

If there are newbies out there that are curious what this is feel free to ask anyone that has said they are in. It is painless and fun to watch the draft transpire.

Last call for people to join up. You can make a post here or in the historical league area. I'd really love to get at least 3 more people to join so we have 12 teams. Ideally I'd love to have 16 teams.
Since we have 9 people already, would most of you be interested in drafting 2 teams so that we can run a 16 team league? This league doesn't really involve at lot time on the part of the team owners. We are in no rush to complete the draft. So if you think time is an issue, it really isn't.

I need everyone that currently wants in to give me a name for their team and what ballpark you want to play in.

Right now I am planning on using a reverse order of finish from last time.
