What is great card. I wonder whether it is real or whether it is a reprint.

exactly, could just be a clever way to sell a worthless re-print.

that's my thought. The cut looks way too clean and the color way too white for something that was trimmed up like that. I would also expect some creases too since it doesn't appear to have any glue or paper loss from being removed from a scrap book.

Re: perfect card for jay
Good question. The seller appears reputable, has perfect feedback, and plenty of transactions on antique paper items. They also state explicitly in the description that it's authentic and not a reprint. I'm inclined to believe that the card is good (well, what's left of it).psacollector wrote:What is great card. It will be interesting to see what it sells for. Over/under $150?
Re: perfect card for jay
real or not - that is some damn good scissor-work! Every corner and edge cut perfectly...
Re: perfect card for jay
The seller does not appear to be a big card guy though, he may think that it's authentic but could be wrong.
It's extremely hard to tell when you can only see so little of the card.
I say under $150.

It will be interesting to see what it goes for. I personally wouldn't go past $50. Thankfully, I'm back to my normal state, broke, so I don't have to worry about actually bidding on it.

I agree. As it stands, it is worth $50.
However, you also get bragging rights with this one.
Because you can trim off all of the grass in front of his leg, without hearting the value.
And truthfully say that you have trimmed a CJ Mathewson, and that you trimmed this one down to what it is (when you sell it). Or sell those rights with the card.
Thats gotta be worth .... $10. or more.

C'mon Jay, you know you want to.

Plus, Jay can then tell us for sure if it's real or not!

I'm sitting it out. The seller never got back to me about whether they would refund my money if the card was a reprint. Given how thin CJs are and their other characteristics, the offered piece just doesn't look right. It's too white and I can't imagine that piece surviving in that condition given how thin the stock is. I'd expect the arm to at least have a crease, of not torn off. I'd want to see it in person first before putting any money up for it.

$47.00 Someone got a great deal if that thing is not a reprint.

Matty
I watched this card but I have a real hard time believing that it was real. It is one of those things that if it is to good to be true it probably isn't. The only thing going for this auction is that the seller has great feedback with over 1000 feedbacks. I still want a 14' Matty someday, but maybe with a little more cardboard than this one!

Nice p/u.
The price was right.
I can almost see it in an SGC custom holder.
With a bead of glue around it to seal it tight.
And your favorite beverage sitting on top of it.
Or mine.

That is a very cool item. Not sure if SGC can encapsulate a card like that. GAI and Beckett should be able to. Beckett seems to slab everything these days.
