different sizes
Boy, the pictures in those cards vary in size, a trait I'm not used to seeing. I'm not talking about the sides, but if you look at the photos themselves, that Red Ott is "taller" than the Brooklyn pitcher (Vance?) next to it, and the O'Doul is bigger than the Wilson in one of the earlier posts, again, not counting the cut. (I assume these are not cut and pasted scans of different size, but one scan of multiple cards side by side) If they were laid out as appears in the Joe Judge miscut card, you wonder how they would/could be different sizes top to bottom.

Well, that graded Traynor certainly has nice full side borders, as do both of Dan's red tints. So there goes my theory. Still gotta wonder why such a large % lack the side borders though. There must be a good reason for it.

Plenty of browns and reds.
Far less greens and purples.
If you see a blue, buy it.

Glen & Dan,
On your Leader Noveltys which contain side borders:
are the images narrower than those which have no side borders?

Leader Novelty
The Leader Novelty cards are truly enigmatic. Sizes are all over the map and I enjoy the colors. I had several at one point and sold them too cheap. However, I gotta admit I enjoy the W553 set. I like the different color stock used...

Dan, I am only now reading this thread (at least the parts I have not read in a few days). I would like to wish your mother and family all the best and hope she recovers fine very quickly.

Rhett, is that a w553? If so, I owned 5 uncut strips of those cards back around 1987. No one had a clue what they were.

Leader Novelty, w553, Uncle Jacks and w517 minis are all small duotone cards of about the same size and date of issuance.
At about 1.75x2.75" the attractiveness of each set is more easily defined by personal preference than by measurable design differences.
All cards from these sets are uncommon, some much moreso than others.
Yet Uncle Jacks cards yield a premium price typically multiples of the other sets.
Why is the demand for these cards uniquely strong enough to support this elevated price?

Well Gil, that may be because Uncle Jacks are the only set in that field which is not a strip card, or other cut out. But the identified field does not include a twelve card set entitled E222 A. W. H. Caramels Va. League

I did have an O'Doul that was red and had both side borders. I will post a scan if I can find it.
Riddler - are those just scans or do you own some of those e222s?

TheRiddler has no property. Actually, it has no existence outside of this forum. It is simply an extra avatar used by Gil as a utility, and tolerated by the Administration because it seems to work, and thus far has not been obnoxious, nor a source of much additional coinfusion.

That is too bad as I was looking for some of those e222s and was hoping I had found a new source for them.

I do not believe that there is any indication that Leader Novelty cards are a strip card issue.

Yes, but are wide border Leader Novelty cards really worth 2.5x narrow border examples?
