Re: 1929 R316 Kashin Publications
One thing about Kashins is that they are often confused with W554's because of a number of similarities in format and style. They also share the same poses as the W554's. There are a number of ways to tell them apart though.
The most obvious difference is size - Kashins are smaller @ 3-3/8 x 4-1/2 while W554's are 5 x 7.
Both Kashins and W554's have a facsimile autograph. Some W554's have a player/team caption on the bottom border, but I don't think all of them do (can anyone confirm?). Kashins don't have the caption, but they do have the team identified under the facsimile auto.
And finally, W554's are found both in b&w and sepia tone while Kashins are exclusively b&w as far as I know.
Both sets are fairly plentiful/affordable, but in terms of overall population, there are far more R316's out there with 101 cards in the set there (the W554 set only contains 18 cards). I actually think both sets are great values. This Hoyt went for only $24.06 on ebay on 8/17.
Here's a R316 next to a W554 for comparison's sake....
