These used to be mine, but sold them a few months back.
I would love to find a Cravath signed T206 but until then this will do...

Larry Doyle was quite a willing signer, wasn't he. Seems like Doyle and Marquard are by far the most common deadball era signatures.

Agreed. In my short time researching signed pre-war cards I've seen more Doyle's and Marquad's than any others.

I also think they were the last few living members from T206. I've also seen many McBrides, Davy Jones and Snodgrass.

Re: Signed / autographed pre-war cards
I'm hoping Paul rings into this thread with a few scans and maybe some comments on relative rarity, toughness, etc.
Is there one player for whom it is all but known that there will be no autographed T206 or other vintage card? It would have to be someone that died or moved to Fiji at about the same time as release.

I find the urge to work the sticker on the back off with a razor blade irresistable.

I don't blame you. It blows my mind that anyone could attach a sticker like that to the back of the card. I understand "why" they do it, but in that case I would so much rather see it slabbed.

I think JSA should either offer holders or just give Certificates of authenticity.

(There's one example of a signed snodgrass.)

autographed deadball cards
Took me awhile to find this thread. Anyone interested in seeing as many known signed deadball cards that I know of can just go to T206Collector.com and view the galleries. Many of the cards are not mine, but their scans are "on loan" to me. I have asked for permission to post the T207 Carey, which is a beaut!
To answer an earlier question, I think Marquard is by far the most prolific signer of deadball cards. Following him, you'll find plenty of Snodgrass, Doyle and McBride cards. Beyond that, most of the players who lived into the mid- to late-1960s signed a few, though I have not seen any of Al Shaw or Harry Pattee.
I was most surprised by the $4,700 price tag (with juice) on the REA signed T206 Crawford. I got mine about a year ago for about $500. Crawford lived a very long life and signed an awful lot of things to be paying nearly $5,000 for his signature on a card. But I think that's a testament to the value of the convergence of signature on deadball card -- as opposed to on a GPC or other item.
Edited to add: Also, I recently peeled the JSA sticker off the back of my E91 signed McBride. It left an oval shaped blank space where text had been, which was very disconcerting, to be sure; but still MUCH better than the label, which was such an eyesore. Ironically, I have shipped the card back to JSA to be encapsulated in a BVG holder.

Re: Signed / autographed pre-war cards
Paul: any lessons learned on how to successfully remove the JSA sticker? I'm afraid to soak mine for fear of losing the autograph.

Re: Signed / autographed pre-war cards
The only lesson learned is that they use something akin to crazy glue on those stickers. Given my concerns over hurting the signature -- and also since my E91 is basically in rags condition already -- I did not want to soak the card. As a result, I tried a hair dryer -- for quite some time. That had no effect, except perhaps to afix the sticker more strongly to the card. In the end, I was more interested in removing the signature, even with the necessary damage to the reverse.
