Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
I don't think it will continue. It's the fact that a large hoard of cards was offered up at the same time. Yes it will take some time to recover, but these cards, for the most part are extremely hard to come by, and I think their value will recover.
E98's are another set that have gone Hot to Cold. I think it's just a natural cycle....but unfortunately for me, I was caught on the high end when it comes to E107s.
So to answer Gil's questions:
1) YES, they will recover
2) Yes, that's why it is worth it. They will dry up again.
3) They won't continue. I think they are at rock bottom.

Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
Common prices were a little soft because so many were offered in Mastro and REA at the same time. Prices for Hall of Famers, however, remained strong. And in some cases very strong (ie Prices for McGinnity, Collins, Flick, Chesbro, Type 2 Waddell, Type 2 Delahanty, etc were as high as they have ever been.)

actually...
The consigner of the type 2 Delahanty was disappointed with the final price, He paid 5 figures for it a while back and if i were to guess i think it was around $19,000.
The same card sold in REA for $8,500 + BP.

Thank you...I did not know that. I thought the Type 2 Waddell for fro $6500 and Type 2 Delehanty for $8500 +BP were strong prices, since so many people question their origins, but I did not know the previous owner paid so much for those.

Ouch......makes my losses look tiny in comparison.
Like I said, I don't mind holding onto my two examples until E107's dry up again. They will recover....might take a while, but they will.

yea, it sucks...
But he needed to sell a bunch of his E107 cards because he needed the cash.
If i remember, the guy told me he once had around 80 E107 cards in his collection.

I was told that he had $10k into the type II Delahanty card.

he may have....
he never told me the price he paid. I just went to VCP.com and checked around the time he said he bought it and that price came up.
The way he talked, it sounded like it was closer to $20,000 than $10,000 but i can't be certain.

Wes, hasn't the assumption always been that the type 2's were cut from a large ad sheet? Since a complete sheet has never been discovered, I can see why this explanation has been questioned. What are the other possibilities/theories of the origin of e107 type 2's?
Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
Ben, To this day, no one has ever seen an uncut sheet or an advertising sheet of Type 2 E107s so that is still just a theory. There is another theory that the Type 2 cards were handcut from a box that originally contained packages of candy. But then again, no one has ever seen an uncut box either.
Prior to the Type 2 Delehanty being sold in Sotheby three years ago, every Type 2 card found had dull grey backs. After the auction, it was noted that the Delehanty had a significantly different bright white back. The difference between the Type 2 Delehanty and the other Type 2 cards have never been explained. It is possible that that Delehanty came from a box and the other Type 2 cards came from an advertisement (or vise versa). So unless someone turns up with a sheet or a box, we may never know.

Brian McQueen owned all of these at one point. Hopefully he can chime in and shed some light on this. But I do remember Brian saying that the Delahanty's back was different from the rest of the Type 2s.
Take at look at the back of a Type 2 Keeler. Is it duller and greyer or is it just dirty?
Here is the Type 2 Lajoie. It looks greyish too.

Now compare to the back of the Type 2 Delahanty. Is Delahanty merely cleaner or is it from a different paper stock altogether?

Haven't these cards recently dropped over 50%
What makes you think that they won't continue

I definately agree with you. I think that the e107s are currently at their low and will shortly make a brief upward adjustment before a steady rise in price. But this then is a heckofa buying opportunity for low grade commons. Two went off tonight in the $300-400 range:
$407.
$320.

agreed, both great buys, I was the under-bidder on the cheaper one, not really collecting them but at that price! Geez!

I agree with you guys!
I won the garvin last night...and this is the first e107 I've ever owned. I was happy with the price for the most part...the spaid punch out doesn't bother me so much considering the eye appeal is so nice. I'm going to make a run for the caramel run e90-e107...if I can find an e99/e100 that is for a reasonable sum of $$$$$$$$.

Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
It is never a fun thing when you, your fellow hobbiests, or even people who you know of; take a hit on card values, simply because a more significant collector chooses to divest his holdings in an issue. It is even worse if we too have to sell, and thereby take an actual loss on the transaction.
There hasn't been much action in the e107 market over the past three months which I have noticed; and normally I would think that an upward adjustment of the over-corrected price drop on e107s was due. But our current financial climate is not "normal". The Market is down sharply, Precious Metals are 20% off their 2008 high, and Collectibles are also off.
Into this arena, Barry Sloate brings two very attractive, no-name Breisch-Williams offerings, called Lots 47 + 48 in his current Auction. A 10 and a 20. Both very striking for the grade. If it was June 2008, I'd guess their value to be about 1K. But it is not June.
If I didn't think that potential buyers had liquidity considerations, I'd guess that they would draw $1500. But the Christmas Season is just a little down the road. Lot 47 has great white borders. And Lot 48 has apparently legitimate claim to increased scarcity.
This could be the gift which you should buy yourself for this year. And sell them when the economy straightens out (if you live that long). These are not my cards, and I do not know who the consignor is.

Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
I noticed there are number of e107s available in various auctions. It will be interesting to see what sort of prices they garner.
I just snagged a SGC60 t205 common for $63 tonight. According to the online price guides, they have been selling in the $90-110 range.

SGC60?
I hear that you should not gaze directly at those - they can turn you to stone, or worse.
You can wake up on a park bench with a copy of the PSA Registry tucked under your arm.

That card will be trade bait for lower grade cards. I plan on keeping the set in the 20 to 40 range.

Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
I wonder what makes this seller think a E107 Chesbro SGC 30 is a $12,000 card? What's it realistically worth in today's market - maybe half that amount? Nice card, but get real.
Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
That's his "for sale" price. Doesn't mean he necessarily thinks that's what its worth, but he's willing to sell it at that level. It could be that he thinks that's fair value...or maybe not. Either way, its his "for sale" price, thus its not in an auction but a BIN.
