Are e107s due for a price correction?
The information which I have, indicates that they have appreciated, even in lower grades, six fold or more over the past six years. This information only applies to commons which grade f/g. I believe (but do not have data supporting my belief) that higher grades and more popular players have performed even better than low grade commons.
I am not at all impressed with the e107s. I find them unattractive, and a set whose only claim to fame is that few other sets were issued around the time that theirs was.
I believe that if you back out the players who appear in the Fan Craze set issued two or three years later, what will remain in the e107s is a pile of players who typically will average the tenure of a Sockalexis, but possess no where near the level of interest that he generates.
In any case, the set has undergone a noteworthy price run up, and it will be interesting to see how the cards do in REA.

i bet we...
see low prices coming out of REA on the E107 cards just because there are so many for sale at one time. I don't think in general we will see a huge correction. I wish they would fall to $500 for a good condition common player. It comes down to how rare and scarce they are. I guess i consider myself lucky when i picked up 2 early 2007 and sold both for a nice profit.

Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
The last time I bought a few E107's, I paid WELL UNDER $500 each for them in FR/GD condition and sold them around the $400 range when I got rid of them.
I do agree with Gil - these are BUTT UGLY cards! However, since they are one of the first issues for the 20th Century, they contain a lot of players' "Rookie" cards - especially HOF'ers. When I started seeing this issue jump dramatically in price was around the time Hal Lewis and other "HOF Rookie" collectors were fighting one another for these E107's. Not only did the HOF Rookies take off, but all the other cards as well.
It is hard to say if the REA examples will sell for more or less than they should. If you get two guys with money who "believe" they can go for a set of E107's, then the sky is the limit. However, IMHO, they should come down a little - especially with this many available at one time.

There is only a handful of E107 HOF players in the auction, so I expect the prices on those to be strong. The commons might go for less than what they normally go for, however, in light of the number of cards offered individually.

I don't think they are ugly at all, just simple black and white portraits. (ugly to me are cards that are overly cartoonish that barely resemble the actual player.)
I could see a price correction on the commons since so many are available. The tougher cards and HOFer's I expect to do quite well.

the fact that it's a reserve auction could effect the price...

I did not...
know what Eric had for a reserve, i would guess around $1,000. I would have bid on it but having a reserve did make me back off. In my opinion, it would have got a higher bid if there were no reserve but its his card and he can ask whatever he wants.

by the way...
I would have put a snipe in at $680....just to see if it would hit, and i would have been happy to pay that.

Reserves are pretty much the death of any auction. People just don't want to waste time trying to guess what the seller wants. If someone thinks they need a reserve, they are probably better off using a BIN above what they want and take offers.

Well I'll keep that in mind the next time I try to offer it up for sale on ebay.
Chances are it won't ever go up there again. I was afraid to loose my a$$ on it, which I didn't want to do.
I expected potential buyers to be turned away from the card because it had a reserve, but thought it was worth a shot since they don't come up for sale that often. Then again the REA offering could have hurt me as well......even though they don't have a Seybold card being offered up.
Oh, well...that's the way it goes sometimes.

You're correct. It was $1,000.

I'd wait until after REA if possible... $1000 for that card is VERY reasonable.
I would have put in a bid w/o the reserve.

Thanks. We'll see what happens with all that.

As in Trading Places:
"Well Mortimer, Mark has set the price. We are now buying e107 commons at $680."

Re: Are e107s due for a price correction?
Well it is Chris' card fgrom the b/s/t allright, but if it sold, there is no indication of that.
That it wasn't scarfed up right away was a surprise to me.
Wasn't it just 6 months ago that any e107 graded above Aut cost $1K or more?
I thought that it was still unsold.
And was wondering where the market really was.
Hence the "offer" of someone else's card.
(At least I wasn't looking to make a profit)

REA has definitely cooled off e107 commons, HOFer's still seem strong though.
