Quite the underrated player. Lifetime .267, nearly 1,400 career hits, a solid base stealer, and the definition of a utility player; played every infield position, the outfield, and catcher in his career. Beautiful card!

Great cards all, but has not one OCD individual on the board noticed these are NoveNber pick-ups?

Re: November 2013 Pick ups
Picked up my first bat this month, a 1965-68 LS 125 "Yaz" model from Wenatchee Valley Junior College. Goes well with my Wenatchee Chiefs material as both teams hosted home games at the same field on the WVJC campus. Couple minor leaguers came through WVJC in the late 60's.
Couple questions since I don't usually collect them, 1) what is the best way to store/display a bat?, 2) the bat is pretty beat up, looks like someone tried to use it as a hammer at some point. It is also "dry" and peeling apart, since it is only valuable to local collectors should I have someone restore it? (I cringe at the thought/scares the heck out of me) Input would be greatly appreciated...

I've seen it done a couple of ways. One is to use wall mounts similar to what you would use for a broom, etc. It holds the bat vertically and allows for easy removal to look at show others up close. The other option is large hangers you can mount in the wall that large enough to hold the bat at both ends to display horizontally. Third option would be custom made racks. I'm sure someone make a display case for bats.

I'm thinking fishing rod or shotgun rack...

Slightly post-war; 1950 Ellensburg Cowboys Baseball Team. Don't know what the trophy was for...

Also picked up a 1951 Seattle Rainiers team photo w/Rogers Hornsby but the darn thing is too long for the scanner.....

Nice piece Jay.
Some time ago there were two Jerry Downs cards from this series on eBay. I passed on picking up one for some inexplicable reason and have regretted it since.
They all have great images.

I'm glad you won that Jay. I lost on almost all my bids, and promised myself that if the Gimbels Marquard I bid on got topped I was throwing a bunch of $$$ at that Pickering (obviously I was an underbidder). Rube held and I at least saved you some money, although I REALLY liked that card/supplement. Only 11 more to go and your set is complete

I ran into a guy this weekend at the show here in The Cities that has a complete set but couldn't talk him into parting with it.

Great Pickering. I hope he enjoyed the game more than that expression suggests he did!

Beautiful Clarke! And it begs the question: Who is the greatest all-time player-manager? However, I will regulate my inquiry to the "Hobby Talk" section.
