Another reason not to trust dentists!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, Pete!

I believe the lyrics "goo goo ga joob", from "I am the Walrus", was a reference to the last words spoken by Humpty Dumpty ("I am the eggman"). Can't put John back together again either.

There will forever be only one John Lennon. But I still don't trust dentists.

Crazy! This dentist seems like a conniver of sorts! Imagine if you will...he succeeds in cloning Lennon...and Chapman gets released from prison and kills him...again!!!!!

I'm not sure I understand the rationale behind you guys not trusting dentists? I could understand not trusting lawyers...bb card dealers...but Dentists?
I make peoples teeth whiter...repair them after they break them...replace them when they're all gone...help take people out of pain.
We're...atleast I'm just trying to help people!

Pete, you may not be among them, but there are a lot of dentists out there who tell you that you need work done that you don't need done. It just happened to me. My dentist told me I needed a tooth redone for $1600 after the other dentist in his office said it was fine.
So I dumped the guy and went to a third guy who also said it was fine. I'll tell you, a lot of these guys like to create work for themselves. Glad you're not among them (I hope).

Every dentist treatment plans differently... Some are definitely more aggressive than others. I tend to be at the opposite side of the spectrum... Maybe a little too conservative?

Yeah, but this guy taps me on the shoulder and goes, "Remember, it's not about the money."
When people say that it's not about the money, what is about?
THE MONEY!!!

My teeth are terrible. I spent nearly ten years in Alaska without fluoridated water. Imagine brushing with brine. It is a social impediment, and embarrassing.ullmandds wrote:I'm not sure I understand the rationale behind you guys not trusting dentists?
I acknowledge it is a danger to my personal health, especially heart disease, but have yet to find a dentist who does not mock me for my past neglect.

I think they have proven correlation between bad teeth and heart disease, but not cause and effect. So while people who have bad teeth are more likely to get heart disease, it is not the bad teeth that are necessarily giving them the heart disease.pariah1107 wrote:My teeth are terrible. That said, I'm sorry about your teeth. I use Crest Whitestrips, but there are other ways to keep them white. And remember to floss every morning!!!

The accepted/scientifically proven correlation is more that of those w/periodontal disease have a higher likelihood of heart disease...and to me all this means is that if someone is neglectful with their oral health...they are likely not the healthiest people in general. Please don't lambaste me...this is just my opinion.
I try not to lecture...to judge my patients. Sometimes it is impossible...but I've learned my lesson...patients don't like to be lectured...even though some need it!
Jamie...the doc saying it's not about the $$$$...sounds sketchy to me. It sounds like he's pushing for a crown. I always give my opinion for recommended treatment...and let the patient decide...unless what they want isn't reasonable then I may refuse to do it and suggest they go elsewhere.
Rinsing with Brine which I imagine is quite acidic can't be good for your teeth...anything acidic isn't good for your teeth. A lot of people don't realize that while too many carbohydrates are bad for our teeth(and the rest of our bodies for that matter)...as they break down to sugar and this is the only "food" the bacteria that live in our mouth eat...thereby "pooping" out acids which break down our teeth.
Ultimately putting things that are acidic into our mouths is much worse and can cause decay at a much more rapid rate.
Another thing that pisses me off is that people downplay the importance of their teeth. Teeth are an organ...just like our heart, lungs...etc...and it's not a pleasant existence living without teeth...unless of course you don't like to eat!
I would certainly take vintage bb cards in exchange for dental care...Chris we've already had a convo regarding this. Is the cost od fental care too high? Perhaps...but the high cost of some procedures helps offset the low cost of other more labor intensive procedures.
Well...time to see the kiddies...60-80 annoying little monsters coming in today...oh boy...can't wait!!!!
