What is the value of this?
Is this an attempt to create a market where none exists? Is that bad?

VCP Approved seller listing Empty It's free but I see no reason....

Post by Wiggum Fan Mon Jul 14, 2008 5:21 pm

Considering it appears to be free, I don't see how it will hurt.

I see it as a way for VCP to get people to their website, and the obvious subsequent membership purchase.

I joined VCP about a month ago. I just re-entered the hobby about 3 months ago (this was the first site I found). Just over the past month, it seems that VCP is 'missing' a lot more auctions. This could be that I am using it more and have recently observed this.

But here's an example using a 1948 Bowman Musial search (yes I know it is outside the 1945 vintage year but it is Stan Musial! haha)

The VCP search came up with one Musial, a SGC 20.
An Ebay search for "1948 Bowman Musial" (no quotes) had 3 cards.

To test it, I just ran another search for 1933 Gehrig. VCP isn't picking up all of the auctions.

Yes, which is the biggest drawback for me. Also, vcp pricing data dates back just a few years. Still a useful reference tool though and many people get great value out of it.

Not sure what the approved seller listing is.

I didn't know VCP just pulls graded cards. Regardless, it has saved me some money, especially on Buy It Now. I have noticed that there have been increases in some sets. All in all, I agree it's a good reference tool..

Here's what approved seller listing thingy is from the VCP website....

At VCP, we pride ourselves on maintaining the most accurate price guide
for the collecting community. We vigorously check every auction listing
before it is allowed into our system. We have already flagged many
sellers as approved sellers in our system and will be notifying them of
their approved status. This will allow them to proudly display our VCP
Approved Seller graphic to further increase their consumer confidence.
We will also list them in our upcoming "Approved Sellers" page that
will link directly to their eBay seller profile AND our "Get It Now"
window(red & orange icons that launch live auction and BIN
listings) will display our approved sellers' listings above all the
others!

To qualify as a VCP Approved Seller, here are the guidelines:

  • Use proper title listing format: Year, Set Name, Card Number, Player Name, Grader, Grade.
Example: 1960 Topps #200 Willie Mays SGC 88
  • Always disclose PSA qualifiers in your listing title with (MC), (PD), etc.
Example: 1960 Topps #200 Willie Mays PSA 8 (MC)
  • Do not mislead with improper data (graders, etc.) on your listing titles and
    descriptions.
  • Display the VCP Approved Seller logo on all of your sports card listings.
  • Must have a feedback score of at least 100.
