September Pick-ups
Okay, Pete - September is here. So what did you buy? Quit holding back on us. And no more pictures of your cat (Otto is adorable, I must admit)
Had a strange dream last night where I looked at my Whitney with Dog card and in the background I saw myself, sitting on the computer in a living room. The dog was a stuffed animal and I realized my cousins took the photo and photo-shopped Whitney into the picture!
I think I need a psychoanalyst!

But he's wearing a Red Sox uniform. Pete, being Yankees fan yo are not allowed to own so you will have to give it to me.
Re: September Pick-ups
Nice card, Pete. But you paid more than Ruth earned in 1919!!!

Man alive. You guys aren't playing around. A W600 Wagner, OJ Whitney, now this. Would one of the vets clue me in to why SGC didn't label this card a 1920 issue?
The 55 Koufax rookie is a great card. The image of Sandy holding his cap makes the card in my opinion. The Clemente may be a just a bit tougher to find autographed.

And Jay... many believe this card to be the first Babe Ruth card after he was traded from the Red Sox to the Yankees... so technically that would make this is Yankee rookie card!

FWIW, there is an M101-6 Ruth variation that denotes him as a member of the Red Sox.

Re: September Pick-ups
It's kind of like the Cap Anson card with the photo of Ned Williamson. If it says "Cap Anson", it's a Cap Anson card, regardless of the content of the image. Same with this card, Ruth may be wearing a Bosox uni, but if it says Yankees, it's a Yankees card. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
I must admit that I was not that familiar with the card before the big purchase. I didn't even know if it was really Pete's before I posted it.
But I think the card could be a great investment. It's certainly a card that has been on an upward trajectory price-wise, and there's no reason why that wouldn't continue.

Brian, this is a very likable card, I really like this Wagner. As we all know, it's hard to find attractive cards of Honus. Again, I know very little about this set, but I can see the investment potential. And I love the look on his face, a very determined Wagner. Usually, he seems more sedate in his photos.

I think it's a beautiful card. It's significant. It will surely increase in value.
But, is any card worth buying if it means having to live in a tent?
Priorities, Pete. Priorities.

Re: September Pick-ups
It's never been put to the test, but I did want that Whitney with Dog card pretty badly. I'm not sleeping in a tent, but I'm a good bit closer to it than I was before!
Moveover, I'm not sure I would mind completely... maybe get out and hike the appalachian trail. Maybe I would just be happier that way, out in the wilderness.

Re: September Pick-ups
jamie...I hear you...I'd consider the wilderness too! or a third world country for sure?!?! but living in MN all yr round in a tent would suck!!!!! My tent's super water-proof...but only has about 1 mm of insulation!!!!
If you were to head for the wilderness...do you take the cards? Or leave them somewhere "safer?"

That's why I was thinking the Appalachia idea, so you could hike south during the winter. It would be real nice. Kind of a dream for me, I guess. Maybe one day...
