Wow, amazing card! It will go for a lot more than the 10-20k that the auctioneer believes. 50k easy, right?

If a previous example in lesser condition really sold for $75K...as the article suggests...I'd guess this one should atleast approach that price...if not exceed it?!?!
But what do I know about this 19th c stuff?!?!

The auction begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Saco River Auction in the North Dam Mill.
WTF?!?!?!
How did these escape the grasp of one of the name houses?!

It happens once in awhile. smaller auction houses and big antiques dealers have pickers that buy stuff for them. Many times not fully knowing what it is they bought. There was good sized 19c collection that was sold by a small auction house a few years ago under similar circumstances. One of their pickers brought in an estate not knowing what everything was that was in there until everything was closely examined.

funny all silent on the n54 thread because the people that know don't wanna say anything to bring attention or drive up the price and the other 95% don't care because it didn't come out of a piedmont or sweet caporal pouch.

I agree I thought the estimates were very modest given the last sale of this particular cabinet.I haven't delved into 19th century baseball collecting but I will be watching to see the end result of this auction.

Save some energy for Legendary. They have some nice stuff ending tomorrow too. Then again, I guess that isn't entirely accurate because the extended bidding will cause it to spill over into Thursday.
In my limited experience, I have the sense that cabinets don't share the earnest bidding that smaller issues do. Are there examples that have sold for over $75K?

OJ collectors are different breed from other collectors. Especially the advanced ones. When there is a tough card available you will see some crazy prices. OJ cabinets are among the upper echelon of cabinets like Duke, Horner, Police Gazette and Newsboy. The find would have been even more amazing if some of them had the rare colored cabinet. One just sold in the last REA auction.

The likelihood is that all of my bids will not be high enough...in both auctions!!!! I'm just playing!!!!! I like the mendolson ruth more than any of those cabinets!!!!!

I've seen those fabulous Horners that were sold way back when on Legendary's site. I remember a real nice Duke cabinet of Ed Delahanty that was making the auction house rounds there for some reason I can't quite fathom. Killer cards all around.

For some damn reason, after I read this post I thought of this quote from Barry Alvarez concerning Lou Holtz:
"Working for Lou was pretty good. But the problem was, every morning he'd make the coaches kiss his ring, and he kept the ring in his back pocket."

Whoaaaaah... Worshipping is one thing, butt-kissing is another. I don't think I'm moving into butt-kissing territory. Mere worship is all that Pete would get.

No denigration intended sir. I just find the quote humorous and wanted to share.
