Anyone Working on a Pre-War or Vintage Hockey Set?
Curious to know what people are working on, if any.
I was working on a V128-1 Paulin's Candy Hockey set, but I have now completed it!
I am still 5 cards away from completing my C60 Lacrosse set of 98. Close...
Thinking about what to do next. I have a tiny start on C144 Champ's Cigarettes - I have 6 cards out of 60, including the Jack Adams (HOF) and the Clint Benedict (HOF). That might be a good one next.
How about you guys?

I'm at 50% completion on the 1952 QSHL St. Lawrence Sales set. Still need fifty plus the four key cards: Beliveau, Plante, Carnegie, and Imlach.

Congratulations Blair, that Paulins set is chock full of Rookie HOF'ers. How about showing some scans.

Thanks! So true - there are 12 HOF rookie cards plus the Chabot RC is popular too. And a nice card of Newsy Lalonde too!
I'll post some scans when I'm at my home computer (right now at office).

Blair , it looks like we have the same interests in cards. I just picked up the last card for my V-128 Paulins chocolate set at the sports card expo. I am also down to two cards for my C60 set, #22 Butterworth and #85 Jeff Malone. I am currently working on the 1924 Holland Creameries set. I have 5 of the 10 cards in the set (really only 9 , i don't count the very rare Neil card) so i only have 4 to go.

Very cool - thanks for posting! Interesting...the Jeff Malone and Butterworth cards were 2 of the later ones I picked up. Maybe in the last 15, I'd say. I wonder if they are really tougher cards, or if it is just coincidence that both of us had some trouble getting those?
Best of luck with your Holland Creameries!

I really like the Gardiner, haven't seen one in quite a long time. Why is the Lalonde only a 2?

Very good question!
I bought it raw at this year's (2011) National from Rhett Yeakley. The card has about 5 light and short wrinkles in it. We both agreed it was likely a "3" or in Rhett's words "the best 2 in the world". I walked it over to SGC, and lo and behold...best 2 in the world

(I'm not knocking SGC generally though, because even over the course of the show, I thought they treated me quite fairly on my few submissions.)

What cards do you need to complete your C60 set? I'm also trying to complete it and the C59. I may have extras of cards you need.

Re: Anyone Working on a Pre-War or Vintage Hockey Set?
I am collecting a set that spanned 34 years. I am collecting St Lawrence Starch (Beehive) photos. They started in 1933 and continued right up to 1967. There was a brief stoppage during the war but they replaced the Hockey players with Warplanes of the time. I am collecting them as well. They were divided into 3 groups with the Planes being the 4th group. I am at 52% group 1, 82% group 2, 76% airplanes, and 29 % of group 3. A little over 700 so far. As they started in 1933 I would put them in the prewar sets. My second passion is 54-55 Topps high grade raw hockey. I only need 4 for the set of 60. Some help on how to post pictures onhere would be appreciated.....computer idiot here so keep it simple LOL

Sounds like a very cool set and quite the challenge. I look forward to seeing them.
