When Money Talks
This week I sold off my Broadleaf 350, which officially breaks up my back run up to DRUM. The prices just got so high that I felt it was time to move it and probably some of my other tougher backs. With the money I have already been able to pick up a wanted card CJ Speaker and still have plenty left to pay down the CC.
It is just amazing how the prices of the tougher backs have shot up in the last year. Last year before heading to the Nationals I tried selling a Broafleaf 30 SGC 30 for $400 with no takers. I was able to seller it at the Nationals for $375 and now they are going for 3 times the amount.
The multipliers for T206 backs definately need a major adjustment.
Has anyone else sold cards from there collection that you were planning on keeping because the prices got so high you felt you just had to sell.

Re: When Money Talks
I sold my drum backed beater back in 2000 or so to fund a leather recliner chair. I had paid $30 for it...and I sold it for $1015...so to me...at that time the money won out!!!! But I have made similar mistakes selling Apple and Ebay thinking they hit their ceiling...only to see Apple stock more than double since then.
I think the rare backed T206's will continue their stratospheric rise in the coming years!

Re: When Money Talks
And....has the craze spread to t206 proofs as well? If so, maybe it's time to think about selling mine
on second thought....nah....donno if I could bring myself to part with it.

Great card Ben - have you ever thought about getting a nice copy of the issued version of the card? Would make a cool display...

Yes, most definitely. I'd like to get the card in really nice shape....EX or so. What I've found is that every regular t206 Mattern portrait I've found has inferior color/detail to the proof, no matter how high grade it is. I can only hypothesize that since proofs were the first print run of the card, they resulted in higher quality images all-around.
Re: When Money Talks
Ben...that proof is fantastic...the color really sets it apart. Thanks for sharing.

Re: When Money Talks
Ben, you're right for the most part you're going to have a hard time finding a Mattern card that has the same level of color and detail as a first run proof.
Good examples can be found but most will always be second to the proof.
Cheers,
John

Re: When Money Talks
Hey thanks John. Your Mattern is amongst the best I've seen (aside from the proof). EPDG back too! Thanks for sharing.
Re: When Money Talks
Even with the ridiculous prices right now I'm not tempted at all to sell my tough backs. There is nothing I could buy with the money that would come close to replacing them.
Ben you know who to call when you're ready to sell that proof.

This is a subject for another thread all together...I have a Mattern EPDG I bought sometime ago. I know I have it but I can't find it and don't have a scan of it. The last memory I have of it is my inner voice saying "Why are you putting that there, you're never going to remember where it is?" I keep expecting to stumble across it but so far no luck.

Re: When Money Talks
Sounds like me and my t222 Houck card. Got slabbed by SGC and when it arrived I couldn't put it in the box I stored all my other cards because the slab was too big. I put it somewhere that I thought it would be easy to find, but apparently not
