Mile High auction
I just checked out some of the Mile High auction. Talk about a substandard product for a major auction house. Every single scan of a slabbed card I looked at is blurry. Even a small auction house should make it's first priority a good scanner or camera. For someone as big as Mile High, it's inexcusable.

also every auction seems to have a m110 matty? i thought these were supposed to be tough? at this point i probably prefer the w600s.
edit: also i see another blank back e93 cobb up. are there caramel enthusiasts out there who actually prefer the blank back e93s and e97s over the regular issue? to me they're an unfinished product that's only attractive if left in uncut form as a group of 30...once cut down the intrigue is over and i treat it like a strip card (no interest at all). of course if you rename the issue to t93 or t97 prices/demand would instantly 10x...

I noticed that too. Then again, over the past year, there has been a lot of tough cards making numerous appearances such as the t208s and the m101-5 Thorpe. Three Thorpes have now been offered this year. I think that is the grand total for the previous five years.
Re: Mile High auction
It's funny how you will see rare cards in bunches sometimes then you won't see one of them for years.
Re: Mile High auction
Wow, a D303 Wagner... now that is a super-gem. Also like the PSA 7 E92 Doolan. Personally, I think the auction's got some nice stuff. I'm not too particular about the scans, but see how they could be improved compared to the other auction houses.

jamie, are you gonna try to corner the market on all the tough wagners?
m110s are coming out of the woodwork...seems like wagner/matty are the most common.

Nope, Quan, I am flat-out of dough
But someone is going to get a really awesome card. If I had known, maybe I would have waited, but the T216 I have is pretty tight, so I can't complain.

imo the red batting pose is much more attractive than the pudgy throwing...i think you picked wisely.

Ah hey, you've got one, too! Alright! Way to join the club, man
The D303 is a batting pose, it's rarer than my T216, though a grade lower. The T216 does have an interesting story with it being the only other tobacco card of Wagner. I can't wait to get it in the mail
PS I agree the batting pose is nicer

I'm going to very respectfully disagree, gents. Aesthetics are a personal matter, but I prefer the throwing. I love the sunset and grass background. I think Honus' face on the throwing card is actually more accurate and recognizable. Yes, he has a bit of a hunchy back on this card, but I actually think that is how he looked when he played the field. Here's my low-grade example that I still love:

Blair I'm with you. I like the throwing pose far more over the batting pose.

c'mon guys he looks like the goodyear tire man
anyways no wagner card can be that bad...at least we can agree on that.

The background is pretty, but he is really fat, his arm looks funny, and he's rolling his eyes. Plus the entire pic is off-center. But hey, that's what makes horse racing!
edited to add: Though I will say, there are more batting poses in existence, probably because the manufacturers agreed with me and Quan, but from a collectors perspective the throwing wags is a bit more scarce, which may add to its desirability.

Personally I prefer the throwing pose over the batting as well. That throwing pose always reminds me of renaissance style paintings where the features of the subjects are very "puffy" and disproportionate!
But yes...I agree any Honus is a good Honus!

They have begun fixing their scans. I've noticed a vast improvement in the scans that I looked at (from last week to today). So they are working on it.

Re: Mile High auction
I like the throwing over the batting as well, mostly due to background color and a more accurate facial representation. However, I do get tired of seeing the same poses over and over in so many sets.

$13k for the D303 Wagner was pretty impressive!
