Goodwin Preview
After thoroughly perusing the Goodwin preview...there are some interesting cards here. The E97 set in sheets is way cool! Some reserves are very high(t215 $5k opening...T208 2K opening)...this won't make for spirited bidding on these items...but the auction should be interesting!

ok...I just looked more thoroughly...and you're right...there are a lot of cool cards in there...and the high reserves seem limited to just a few items...never mind!!!!!

Re: Goodwin Preview
That Anson cabinet is diesel... a PSA 9 Comiskey, a T216 Wags, toss in a Delahantly and lots of nice OJs. Plus some really high grade 52's and 55's, my fave post-war sets (that I don't collect), I'd say Bill Goodwin did pretty well for himself. I'm impressed. Especially the Anson cabinet.

What's up with the E-card commons in VG starting at $100 + juice? I've noticed this before with Goodwin (and some of those lots don't even draw a bid). The "market" price for these cards is well below $100.

He did the same thing with his T206 auction, but seemed to get bids on those anyway.

Oh hey, a lot of people will just assume it's cheap because it received no other bids. Look at the Cali OJ at REA - one guy bid and he was just stuck there - someone bailed him out at the end with a second bid, but he probably wasn't anticipating being the only bidder. I could be wrong.

My guess is that the guy who bid first on the Cali OJ at REA knew exactly what he was doing.

What's up w/lot 98...this t206 doesn't look like it has a brown old mill back...it looks like another grading problem. Is SGC hiring PSA's old graders or what?

Re: Goodwin Preview
I have to agree. That back sure does look black. I've seen brown backs, both the Old Mill and t207 Recruit and they look nothing like that.

Looks like a black-backed Old Mill mislabelled by SGC to me.

Re: Goodwin Preview
yea a common mistake new collectors make is thinking TPG is 100% error-proof. i've seen some wacky stuff recently in graded holders that should be fairly easy to spot. imo alterers are getting better while the 3rd party grading we depend on to catch them is getting sloppier. as collectors nothing beats obtaining knowledge and information and gaining experience on the stuff we're collecting...very fulfilling and fun.

Re: Goodwin Preview
The OM Stark is on its way back to SGC for review. As noted, Goodwin withdrew it from the auction.

Re: Goodwin Preview
At least with SGC, we know that they will make things right. PSA/Joe Orlando would just tell us that they are the experts and that we have no clue what we are talking about.
Re: Goodwin Preview
Thanks for the update Brian, it is good to see it is being taken care of.
I am curious as to whether the card was submitted as a brown back or someone at SGC designated it as such.

Re: Goodwin Preview
What makes this card OC? It looks like an label. Why not get a non-qualifier it should grad a 7 or 8 with that centering.

Under the overhyped club, the T206's with name on to and bottom with starting bids at $200.
The more I see of his auctions the more I wonder.

Re: Goodwin Preview
That looks like a first generation label. I was thinking that it hadn't been cracked for fear of coming back trimmed but that card looks full size. The qualifier will kill it. Someone might get a deal and get back an 8, maybe even a 9 with no qualifier on a resub.
Re: Goodwin Preview
For an 8 it would be worth it, but in the set registry a 9Q is worth the same as a 7, and I would rather have a 9Q than a 7. It's a bit more unique.

There has been another withdrawal, It appears the OJ with the over sized condom has been pulled. Is there more to come ?
