What a classic! Who's Viktor Kowalski?
I especially like how you spelled Allman Brothers (great band btw). The Pink Floyd and Deep Purple content is also top notch.
Did you see some good live shows in the 70's/80's?

I do my own remixes. They range from original material, to speeding up slow songs like Faith Hill's "This Kiss" to a danceable beat, to mashes of rap songs mixed with the original song where they stole their loops from. One of favorite original pieces is called "My Balloon" I recorded the sounds of air escaping from a balloon and then put them to a techno beat.

I thought I was so clever back then. Man was I a pup!
Viktor Kowalski was one of the false identities of the Jackal in the "The Day of the Jackal", that was one of the first R-rated movies I saw; an older cousin took me to see it. It had a memorable nude scene.
I collected tunes back then like I collect cards today. Tunes captured from the radio were a much cheaper hobby. I didn't have much money so I didn't go to a lot of concerts. The few that I did go to I either won the tickets to in a raffle, or was treated by a friend or relative.
A recent favorite tape is one I made of the soundtrack to Jack Smith's Flaming Creatures and the Maria Montez films. It's a audio pastiche by Tony Conrad that has a tune sung by John Cale singing what sounds like an arabic-sounding dirge.

Pretty Cool, I think the song you labeled Hello Cowgirl is "Cowgirl in the Sand" and is my favorite Neil Young song. Burn is a great Deep Purple song from a revamped Deep Purple line-Up consisting of Glen Hughes on bass instead of Rich Glover & David Coverdale singing instead of Ian Gillian. I think I'm right about that. also I haven't heard a Mott the Hoople song in a long time.
Classic Rock is the greatest era of music in IMO.

Pete-I still have that Billy Thorpe Children of the Sun album. I graduated Mt. St. Joe High School in 83. I can't remember what year that came out but we would make those mix tapes and go to this swimming hole and play those tapes over and over-summer after summer.
I didn't know about vintage cards until several years later. I wish I would have spent my money on cards instead of beer and **** well I will leave it at that.

I don't know if I'd recognize 'Children of the Sun', except for the chorus, if I heard it today. That tape had both high and low points, and that song (after a few plays) may have been one we fast forwarded past. Are any of the other songs from the album any good--that is if you've listened to it lately?
I was a diligent journal keeper in those days (that tape label is on the cover of one). I would often note in it tunes on the radio that I liked. I was reading it a few years ago when I came across a note I made (in 1979 or so) about the album 'Foxtrot' by Genesis that I liked. So I went out and bought it at the local record store, and thoroughly enjoyed it (especially 'Supper's Ready'). It was kind of like I was making a note to my almost thirty years older self to check out the cool jams. I guess if I had kids they would serve a similar function, reminding me what it's like to grow up and experience stuff for the first time.
The card collecting bug was in remission in those days. I didn't discover vintage until I attended a Tri-Star show in Kansas City in ~'96. Before then I had absolutely no idea of their availability, because if I did I'm sure I would've pursued them relentlessly as it was in my nature to collect any and everything under the sun.

Pete-I haven't listened to that album in at least 15 years. I still have about 600 albums from the 70s and early 80s. Never listen to them anymore. I used to make those tapes of all the songs I liked and take a cassette player to the swimming hole so we could party and listen to music.
Now we have kids and mostly listen to their music. I guess I should sell those lps and buy vintage.

I've looked into selling my old LPs and with the exception of a few they either don't sell or if they do they don't sell for much. There's a Beatles album with them holding bloody slabs of meat that was on the Roadshow they appraised for $3K or so--that'd be a good one to sell if you have it--not nearly what you'd need to be able to afford a t206 honus wagner.

Old LPs are not worth much unless you have a rare import or rare cover variation like David Bowie's uncensored Diamond Dogs or The Man Who Sold the World where he is dressed in drag. Blues and jazz from the 20s and 30s also seems to sell well.
I sold an original copy of White Christmas a few years ago that was in perfect condition and it only went for $12

Re: Here's a mix tape I made in '79
My dad gave me his record collection from the 60's and 70's about 15 years ago, and I started collecting vinyl...it was just like collecting cards. I had first pressings of every Beatles, Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and Frank Zappa in both mono and stereo (some had different mixes for mono or stereo), and a lot more with a total of 1000+ records.
When we moved a couple years ago I sold them all except for 10 or so and many sold for a lot of money ($500+); to be worth anything they have to be first pressings, or like Jay said some kind of rare version. If you have a bunch of common records Craigslist is great, more than 500 of my records I sold as a lot on Craigslist for $100.
