Redeemable Card sets
I happened to be looking at the back of a D359 Rochester Baking Card and noticed that you could redeem the whole set of D359's for Mail of all Nations cards or a Megaphone. Can you imagine trading in a whole set of D359's for a Megaphone
Wonder what mail of all Nations cards are worth today or what the megaphone looks like.
I also wonder how much this redeem feature has to do with scarcity of said issues.
Anyway, thought it might be a good idea for a thread to Show Cards that were redeemable for a prize and if anyone has one of these prizes to show, please do.
Is redeemable a word

Re: Redeemable Card sets
If you notice, it says "This set will be returned." So I would assume you had to present the set for the prize and then they gave back the set. Thus got the megaphone and set.

Re: Redeemable Card sets
Some companies clipped or punched at least one card in the set before returning the cards so that the same set would not continue to be resubmitted. Also, on many of these redemption sets, one card was intentionally short-printed so as to limit the number of prizes to be given away. Sometimes, that short-printed card was the card that was punched before the set was returned. Those particular cards are extraordinarily valuable, especially in unpunched condition.

M131 Baltimore Newsboy cards.
These cards were issued only in the Baltimore, MD area to newsboys as an incentive to sell more papers. A prize of $1.00 (a hansom sum back then) was given to the first 35 newsboys that could complete the set.

R300 George C. Miller
A complete set of R300's could be redeemed for a baseball glove, ball, or a grandstand ticket to any American or National League game (excluding the WS). R300's were cancelled either with hole punches or by trimming off the bottom portion of the card. After cancelling the cards, the company returned them along with the prize to the owner.

Re: Redeemable Card sets
Lots of sets had redemption programs, including:
Yuengling's, Tharp's, Harrington's, Honey Boy, Maple Crispette, Holland Creameries, George C. Miller, and US Caramel. Some Exhibits and Fleischmann's had coupons that could be clipped off. Buttercreams had a send in contest and Fan's had a ballot to be turned in. Anyone have scans of these backs to show off?

Here's the back of an uncancelled Holland Creameries card. A redeemed set of 18 got you either a brick of ice cream, 3 'Holland Banquets', 3 'Snowballs', or 5 'Holland Delights'.glenv wrote:Anyone have scans of these backs to show off?

Here's a scan of one of the cards from the Mail of all Nations set, the set you would have recieved when you completed the D359 set. Scan courtesy of Net54 Non-Sports Moderater
Re: Redeemable Card sets
I picked this up recently. From what others have told me, the Cancelled stamp means the card was sent in with a complete set for redemption.
