Small Tidbits
One of the Neat things about BB Card collecting is the history you learn by Collecting the cards.
The most interesting things to me is mostly about the Common Players. We know alot about the Hall of Famers but it's the common players whose stories go untold. Sometimes you just pick up small tidbits of info you didn't know.
For example, I picked up this R313 of the 1936 White Sox and was searching for info about the team to see what players or if any Hofers were on this team. Turns out 2 Hofers Appling & Lyons were on the team. But there was 2 pitchers whose names struck me as funny/ unusual.
There was a relief pitcher on the sox named Italo Chelini but there was also a pitcher that won 14 games that year named SUGAR CAIN.
Naturally Sugar was born and died in Georgia where Sugar cain was prominent. Most of you younger guys probally never chewed on a hunk of Sugar Cain but being from Texas I was eating it all the time as a kid. You peeled the bark off and you had a sugar treat.
Just a shout out to Sugar Cain, The Pitcher and a Childhood Memory
If you got any tidbits, please share.

Re: Small Tidbits
I also like the surprise! nicknames - the ones which you thought were their real name - until you read the back of their card. Pete Runnels, Billy Martin and Jim Rivera come to mind.

Cool story Jerry, and a really nice R313 too. Do you know where Chelini and Sugar Cain are seated on it?
