HOF Cartwright photo debunked?

I got sent this link about the Cartwright half plate Daguerrotype in the HOF. It's a bit of a long, dry read but well worth it you are into the history of the game how easy it is to misidentify a person in a photo.

that's a deep and long read...i got started at 1am but my eyes got droopy so i gotta continue on another day. i'm haunted by all the faces. can't wait to read about the family provenance of how this picture was chosen over the rest.

Looks like the photo is of Alexander Cartwright's brother, Benjamin. Bummer for the owner of the picture, who was quite dogmatic in defending his photo. It's interesting how history changes!

I suppose the plaque in Cooperstown should now read:

"Benjamin Cartwright, the brother of the guy who didn't invent baseball."

Seems like AJC's grandson was, ahem, not a very reliable source of information
