Columbia, SC Empty Columbia, SC

Post by JohnV Fri May 23, 2008 12:02 am

I was looking through a book "Baseball in Columbia". Between 1900 and the 1920s, Columbia had one or more minor league teams. At least one was a Pittsburgh affiliate. Anyway, they showed 3 cards that had the players last name and 'Columbia' immediately to the right. The cards appeared to be similar in size and shape to T206s. They had a dark border, possibly red. Can someone identify these cards for me? Were there other sets from this period for the Columbia team? At one time they were known as the Columbia Comers. What's a Comer?
Thanks, John

The cards you mention are T210s, the first series to be exact.

It is a perspective thing, depending on your position:

"All my friends know the low rider
The low rider is a little higher

The low rider drives a little slower
Low rider, is a real goer"

In the case cited, low rider is heading away.
Otherwise he would be a "comer"

agree what to do?

John, do they have an Old Mill back? If they do, then they definetly are the t210's.

They were Old Mill.
Are there other sets with Columbia players?

Here's a page on T210s: http://www.oldcardboard.com/t/t210/t210.asp?cardsetID=704

Old Mill also made a cabinet card (H801-7) using the same images as the T210s. They are a lot tougher to find. Not sure if there are H801-7s for all the series of T210s.

Can someone direct me to a list of T210 players from the Columbia team? I've found only 3...Martin, Lewis and Redfern. Not sure if there are others.

Would be most interested in seeing Columbia players of the T210 set. Does anyone have some photos to share?
Thanks,
