1928 Star Player Candy Walter Johnson???

I was checking the population report for this set on SGC and it says they have graded a Walter Johnson. This card does not appear in any checklists - can anyone confirm its existence? That would be one hell of a card!

Hi Chris, I have never seen nor heard of a Johnson Star candy card. I have seen Ruth and Gehrig but never Johnson. Either SGC mislabelled some other issue or it is one rare puppy! Take care, Dan.

You said you have seen a Gehrig? Is it the same pose as the 1929 Star Player Candy Gehrig? Just curious, because the '28 and '29 Ruth's are different poses...

This would be a really cool card if it actually exists. Johnson's last season in the bigs was 1927, so I guess a 1928 issue with Johnson on it is not out of the question. Also, new discoveries of Star Player Candy cards have been made until very recently, and with so few examples of each subject to start with, it's conceivable that Johnson could be in the set.

However - while I don't know a thing about pop reports, doesn't a card first have to be cataloged before it's listed in a pop report? Maybe Dan's suggestion is right and this is just a SGC mistake.

My uncatalogued e104-3s were slabbed long before they ever appeared in a checklist.
