How to identify players in the T209/T210/Obak sets
After all this time lurking (after the big fall-out with the other board), I've finally decided to come out and make myself known. I chose to post here because Jay was very helpful to me a couple of years ago when I contacted him about information regarding his E104 Boss Schmidt. He was most helpful and I am still very grateful for him taking time out to assist me. I have also had nothing but positive dealings with Scott. Now that the background is complete, my question: How do you know who the players are in these sets when all you have to go on is a last name? If you are not familiar with the players history, is there a checklist available with the information? Mainly, I am curious as to whether the Schmidt in the T209 and T210 sets is Walter (Boss' younger brother). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Shannon, while I don't have an answer to your question (I am sure someone here will however), I would LOVE to welcome you to the board and look forward to more posts from you here!

baseball-reference.com has a minor league database, but I'm not sure if it goes back to the deaball era. Hopefully, one of the resident PCL experts can chime in.

Thanks Scott for the welcome! I look forward to the wealth of information available here. Jay-thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of that site. I'm going to give it a try. Hopefully others can chime in as well.

I sent an email to Mark Macrae, one of the leading experts on the PCL. Here's the email he sent me:

Hi Jay.
Thanks for your note. The best source for first names in the Obak
series is VCBC, Issue #12. Jeff Obermeyer did a good article on them.
Not all of the players are identified, but it's pretty complete.
Remember that it is not just the Pacific Coast League that is featured.
In addition, players from the Northwestern League are included. Very
little time has been spent researching the NWL. Feel free to copy /
paste this info. I do have extra copies of VCBC #12 at $5 plus priority
shipping.

For 1909, 1910 and 1911 Obak (T212) try this:
