T205 Joss Should I buy it PHOTO INSIDE
Hey guys i got a guy I have worked deals with already and he has a Joss available for sale. He is looking for $250 on the card. The front of the card he says in VG/EX but the back has a spot of paper loss. Im getting a photo but say 3/4's of the back is missing or something is the card worth spending $250 on? I dont want to over pay for it but i understand it is a hard card to come by. Any help be great guys and as soon as I can get a photo I will post it
WHAT WOULD YOU PAY FOR THIS??

Big fat no to that amount of paper loss. The really cool thing about this card is the memorial bio on the back. If 3/4 of the back is missing it loses a lot of its appeal. At least for me anyway. No minor paper loss that doesn't affect the bio would be OK.

If there's one card I want the back intact on, it's the T205 Joss (for the reasons Jay stated).
With that said, it's still a tough and cool card that's worth decent coin in any condition. I see that you added scans. The back damage is significant, but could be worse. On the plus side, the front is really quite nice.
I'd pay $200 for that card and feel good about it.

For $200...I'd buy that card as a filler until a better one came along...front is excellent...but agreed...the back damage is extra crucial on this card.

I would pass. Few flaws bother me more than significant paper loss. Wait for a better example, so you won't have to go through the aggravation of upgrading it some day.

3/4 paperloss on back? I say no. If I could live with that card in my collection, which I couldn't but some people may be able to, I would be willing to pay about $100 for it. Dan

I was in your position about ten years ago. There were so many Hall of Famers I wanted and $1,000 seemed like a fortune. I bought Mathewson that looked like someone had crumpled it, Cobb with a gigantic hole, Speaker with the back torn off, etc.
Now I'm in the process of replacing those 1s with 3s and 4s, which have much greater eye appeal and reflect the actual intent of what the card looked like when originally produced. For a few hundred dollars more, the difference is striking.
My advice is for you to build your war chest, be patient, and get the one that's right for you. The T205 Joss is a card a lot of collectors like to have, but the printing plate didn't break, the Joss family didn't protest big tobacco, and they weren't dumped into the East River en masse ... that means they're out there, in an assortment of conditions, and can be had.
Also, once you have the funds in place, it wouldn't hurt to put it out there with some dealers and smaller auction houses, "Hey. I'm looking for a T205 Joss." People want money in this economy, and they'll go looking if they can make a buck.
