My lone example. Most Thorpe's are seen with a blank back. I had about 25 F&Bs at one time. All stamped Lester O'Neil on the back.

Does Mr Zwilling realize that he is playing baseball and not football?

Those are some great examples guys! One of my neighbors growing up had the last name Zwilling...I wonder if they were related?

I am getting my 1st F&B back this week from a board member. A Harry Covaleski in VG. I have also made arrangements to add a BIGGIE to my collection, but not until early December by the time everything gets worked out. I will be sure to post it when its in my posession!

Interesting Tim how your back faces the other way...what direction do the others face?

My Thorpe face the other way. Is possibly tied to the year it was issued? m101-4s facing left and m101-5s facing right?

According to a post on N54 a few years back by Tim Newcomb, who wrote an article for OC regarding the set, there are a few interesting points relative to the backs. Something to the effect that F&B backs do alternate direction based on the player depicted on front. Also, according to Tim's post, since M101-4's are clearly a later issue than the M101-5, the high numbers are much harder to find, presumably because the advertisers neglected to give out many ofthe higher #'d F&B's by the end of 1916. That is, of course, what I gathered from this old post. I havent been able to read the OC article yet, so maybe there is more info to be gathered there!

The most interesting F&B card out there is the card of #8 H. D. Baird, not because of the player at all but in the M101-4 set most all backs have his position as C.F., however, the F&B cards show his position on front as 3rd Base--a variation that has never been catalogued as far as I know. Also, I have only seen a few examples of the card floating around so it could eventually be a fairly price variation (as the m101-4/5 variations have really been picking up steam over the past few years)...

Given the St. Louis connection, I wish I had more of these, but this is my lone example.
