T206 Cycle 460s vs. OJ's
As you most now I have been pursing the T206 Cycle 460 subset and recently picked up an OJ Ewing & Mascot. Well, I decided to check the pop report and found that SGC has grade 23 ewing & mascaot which really surprised me that the number was that high. I would be surprised if there was many Cycle 460s that would have that many cards still available.
Now my question overall all is the Cycle 460 maybe even adding in the 350 series tougher then the OJs?
Any idea what the average population of an individual OJ card is?

Lee,
You can check on the SGC pop reports, but for OJ's, I really think it depends on the card. Some are very common while others very rare. It can really vary.
Comparing OJ's with T206's is really and apples and oranges comparison since they are from different eras and Cycle 460's are really a subset of the T206's, whilst N172's are their own set in and of themselves.
Cycle backs are pretty scarce, so if you were just comparing cycles with OJ's, I'd think the Cycles would be more rare. Yet it's a whole different field of collectors.

As Jamie said, there's much more demand for the OJ then there is for Cycle 460 backs. Supply vs demand.
Re: T206 Cycle 460s vs. OJ's
If you are comparing a Cycle 460 back to say a common George Gore pose in the OJ set then there ill certainly be more Gore's than Cycle 460's. The Ewing plus mascot is from my experience perhaps one of the 10-20 MOST COMMON of all OJ's as it was obviously one of their favorites to distribute.
That being said there are tons of OJ subjects that are so rare that even the toughest backed T206's aren't gonna compare to them. Also, the OJ's have a stronger following and are older and will command higher prices, although the toughest T206 backs have been commanding CRAZY MONEY lately so to each their own.
It is funny that the only other 20th century tobacco set ever made that can compare to the #'s that have survived as the T206's is the T59 Flags of All Nations set which also has a crazy # of backs to contend with BUT b/c they are flags nobody gives a rats a** about even the toughest backs, one can generally pick these cards up for about .50-$1.00 each in decent shape. So, the T206's are the baseball version of the T59's which is why I can't stand them. To each their own!

A Ewing & Mascot is an iconic pose of the greatest player in Nineteenth Century baseball. A Cycle 460 is an answer to a trivia question.
