No Love for Southern California
I am getting really jealous listing to all the great stories coming from the national, the Cooperstown card show, the east meeting with collectors. Unfortunately, due to work constraints, I just can't get away from work and travel all the way to the other side of the coast to go to a card show (that and my wife would probably laugh in my face if I told her that I wanted too).
The best thing we had going for southern cali was the tri-star shows at the Hollywood park casino and it seemed like every time I would drive up there and I would drive back wondering why I went. I live in San Diego and we do have a card show once a week at a small hotel located in a random spot. I went there once and was kinda turned off since there were like, maybe, 4-5 tables set up with a bunch of shiny stuff.
I guess we do have beautiful beaches, blondes, and perfect weather. But, I would trade all of that for a National! (Ok, maybe not)
Anyways, had to rant a little bit since we don't get any "vintage card" love here in Sunny Southern California.

There was one in Anaheim, but... in the worlds of Robert DeNiro in Cop Land, "You had your chance... and you blew it!"

rant on jeff...i guess the last anaheim show was a big bust. and then HP went out also. i remember there was one HP show where tik & tik actually made it out here...that was around the time when mastro, gai, sgc, beckett, and psa were also active.

The old Bob Lee shows in the late 80s and early 90s were always huge. For vintage material, I think best West Coast show is probably Mark Macrae's show in the Bay Area. Easy access from BART and always a great selection of material.
I miss setting up at that show. It was my favorite.

Ahh, the golden age of collecting! I wish we had shows like that today, now we are stuck with eBay! Actually, I think these forums are incredible because they connect collectors from everywhere and we can learn, trade, and talk cards. I really love these little pieces of cardboard and it's tough to find people who appreciates them as much as I do!
Is there anybody who lives in southern California that would want to meet up? Maybe a game and food?
