"D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
We've gone through the tough T and E, and 19th century sets, ranking them according to scarcity. Now it's time to give D cards a go. Anyone want to take first shot? This will be a shorter list then the previous ones. Of course, any additions to the list that you'd like to make are more then welcome. I broke D304 into back types because there's a significant difference in scarcity between the 4 backs. Will be interesting to see how they fit in on the ranking.
D303 General Baking
D303 Mother's Bread
D304 Brunner's Bread
D304 General Baking
D304 Martens
D304 Weber

Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
This one will be more challenging as most of these issues are tough. I only have 6 of these types(D303 Gen baking, d310, d311, d322, d359(both) so will leave the ranking to those who are more in the know!

I have no clue as to rarity on any of these. I've actively pursed any baking issues other than m101-4/5s with Weil Baking backs.
Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
Well, let me give it a go then. Open to opinions/changes/criticism!
Tier 1 - extremely difficult
D303 Mother's (super tough)
D380 Clement (both types)
D304 Weber/Martens (not sure if one is much scarcer than the other)
D381 Fleischmanns
Tier 2 - difficult
D310 Pacific Coast Biscuit
D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit
D303 General Baking
D359 Rochester/Williams (2 backs nearly equal scarcity imo)
Tier 3 - relatively easy to find
D304 General Baking
D304 Brunners
D322 Tip Top
Your thoughts?

ben...looks pretty good to me...obviously a "relative" scale...as easy D cards are harder than easy E...or T cards...imo!

Do people agree with my ranking of the top tier? I realize it's difficult to compare obscure sets like D303's and D380's (it's mostly speculation really) but it's interesting anyway.
Anyone own any Mother's Bread cards? People never talk about D303's but they're exceedingly scarce.

Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
Certain D303 Mothers are tough, but if you wanted to just find an example, I don't think they would rank #1. There are a handful of Mothers Bread cards that show up over and over, one of which is Plank. I would move D303 after D380 and D304 Martens/Weber.
D381 Fleischmanns should also be moved down - to the 2nd level. Finding an example is not too tough, especially one without coupon.

Once again, it will come down to defining scarcity. Is it the ranking of the entire set as a whole or just scarcity of finding a single example?

Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
I should have clarified that much earlier; for all the scarcity threads, I was thinking along the lines of "difficulty of finding a single example".

Hi Ben,
I like your list but would add a D304 back and change a few things around.
I guess it matters what circles you travel in, where you live, etc...
Tier 1 - extremely difficult
D303 Mother's (super tough)
D380 Clement (both types)
D304 Weber
D304 Martens
D381 Fleischmanns
Tier 2 - hard to find but not too hard
D310 Pacific Coast Biscuit
D303 General Baking
D304 Fleischmanns (Butter Krust) not brunners
Tier 3 - relatively easy to find
D311 Little Biscuits
D359 Rochester/Williams (2 backs nearly equal scarcity imo)
D304 General Baking
D304 Brunners
D322 Tip Top

Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
I don't know if you want to differentiate between the two, but D381 Ferguson's are exceedingly tougher than their Fleischmann counterparts. Maybe the toughest example to find on this list.
Of course the only real difference between Ferguson's and Fleischmann's is on the tab on the bottom - and even then its only one sentence, so people may not view separating the two as necessary.

Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
Hey Chris, didn't you own a D303 Mother's Plank at one point in time? Betcha'd like to have that one back huh?

Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
I used to own the Plank and a Mothers Hal Chase too. Stupidly got rid of them. Ugh...
Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
I didn't know you had the Chase too, Chris. Didn't you speculate that they were trimmed/handcut but they ended up grading numerically? I wonder if the irregular cut is a common trait for Mother's cards.
Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
Just a point of clarification, the oval D380 is the 1909 series which consists of 8 Rochester Broncos. The square D380 is the 1910 series which consists of 8 Rochester Broncos and a bunch of Major Leaguers.

Dan -
From your experience, have you found one D380 series to be more difficult than the other? Or are they both equally as tough?

You left off a D304 back, there are 5 different, you missed the Fleischmans or some call it butter crust I believe. It was always referred to as Fleishmans in the good ole days.

Re: "D" Bakery Card Scarcity Ranking
I would definitely move D381 Fleischman to tier 2 and differentiiate between D359 Rochester and D359 Williams. The Rochesters are tougher than Williams and the last 3 or 4 groups of cards to be found were all Williams. I am assuming the scarcity list is for an example only.
